Too funny, John. Though you are a troll, I cannot resist replying. I would not be surprised if Officer Keilitz takes care of the laundry and the cooking after a long day of ensuring the safety of the public in Barnegat. Because we women? We take home the bacon AND fry it up in a pan.

I was told by a friend that trying to reason with those who are anti-vaccine is futile. I believe him now. But just to let you know: adequate clinical trials for flu vaccines are often not attainable, as the strains in each year's vaccine change and there simply is no time nor adequate controlled population to complete a trial. Again, nothing nefarious. Or, as is clearly indicated in the same insert you mention, efficacy is based upon immune response (a routine, medically-acceptable method). What I am finding most frustrating, Rick, is that you post a statement or quote without context & then offer a dubious suggestion that there is foul play afoot. It's not fair to those who may be reading what you write, but not know that they need to look further to find "the rest of the story." That being said, I leave you to yourself on this topic. I would just urge anyone who reads posts anywhere, particularly when the posts are clearly an attempt to insert an emotional charge or jump to multiple reasons for/against anything good/bad/indifferent: get the full story & make your own decision.

Yes, the recommendation is that almost everyone should get a flu shot, but in America, we cannot & do not force people to get a vaccine. That brings us full circle to the original point: why produce hundreds of millions of doses of an immunization that will be wasted since most people make a choice not to receive the vaccine? They are not foregoing it because it is not produced; it is not produced because it is not wanted.

I don't believe I said that at all. You have mischaracterized my words. I'm not trying to be argumentative, Rick, but I feel as though you are. You have taken both sides of an issue...that the vaccine is bad and also that there should be more available for those who do not want it.
I believe that 2/3 of the population should go without protection if they choose to go without protection. Nothing nefarious going on there.

ReplyRick, a diagnosis of flu-like illness does not include the common cold. There is not a doctor in the world who will look at a person with the common cold and call it a flu-like illness. The CDC flu figures do NOT include the common cold. The diagnosis of flu-like illness is used when testing is not immediately conclusive or signs & symptoms are so obvious that testing is not necessary (or not available). And the reason why vaccine is not produced for the entire population? Because the entire population doesn't take the shot. It would be silly to produce millions of extra doses of a vaccine that would go to waste every year. The vaccine is in short supply this year because many people who do not normally take the shot are heeding the advice to get it.

ReplyPlea bargains, while not always palatable and certainly never agreeable to everyone, serve a real purpose in our legal system. It's not necessarily a matter of not wasting the courts time.
