Route 88 bridge will be closed three more nights
The Route 88 bridge in Point Pleasant Borough will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Dec. 19 and 26 and Jan. 2. Like the closure this past Monday and Thursday nights, the upcoming closures are due to the Army Corps of Engineers repairing the corroded steel of the bulkhead along the canal, said Steve Rochette, an Army Corps spokesperson. The repairs are part of work that has been ongoing for months and has nothing to do with Superstorm Sandy, Rochette said.

But that's iffy because DOT still planning how to rebuild Beaver Dam Creek bridge and DEP permits needed
There may be a way to rebuild the bridge on Route 88 over the Beaver Dam Creek without closing the eastbound lane, said a state Department of Transportation official on Wednesday. At the urging of Brick councilman-elect James Fozman, Ahmad Qureshi, DOT project manager, said the state agency may be able to take apart the existing bridge and build a new one without closing the eastbound lane for part of the 9 to 12 months that work is ongoing. The current proposal is for the eastbound lane of Route 88 on the bridge to be closed for at least part of the time the bridge is being rebuilt. The rebuilding of the bridge, which was built in 1923, was discussed at a DOT Public Information Center at the Brick Township Municipal Building on …

Lanes could be closed for 8 to 12 months near Brick-Point border
It's one of the primary gateways between Point Borough and Brick and it's going to be partially closed and rebuilt in a couple of years. The bridge over Beaver Dam Creek, on Route 88, needs to be rebuilt, which means the eastbound lane will have to be closed during at least part of the projected 8 to 12 months it will take to get the work done, according to the state Department of Transportation. The rebuilding of the bridge will be the subject of a meeting at the Brick Township Municipal Building, 401 Chambersbridge Rd., Brick, from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The bridge has to be rebuilt for a number of reasons, including that it's "structurally deficient, functionally obsolete" and has no sidewalks, according to the DOT (see first attached …

Accident occurred on Route 88 in Point Pleasant Boro
Police are still investigating an accident that involved a car hitting a utility pole on Route 88 and overturning, said Captain Richard Larsen on Tuesday. Timothy P. Tarnowski, 22, Brick, told police a mechanical problem with the steering on his black GMC caused him to lose control of the vehicle just west of the Bridge Avenue intersection on Saturday. He was not injured and no charges have been filed at this point, but the investigation is continuing, Larsen said. Police were called to the scene of the crash in front of 3211 Route 88 at 3:19 p.m. Saturday. The pole was badly damaged and had to be replaced by Jersey Central Power and Light, while police handled traffic control on the busy street, Larsen said.

Multiple lanes closed on both roadways
Authorities were clearing an accident from the intersection of routes 70 and 88 in Brick where a vehicle reportedly overturned Thursday night. The accident was first reported just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday. By 10 p.m., police had blocked off several lanes of Route 70 and were directing eastbound traffic onto Princeton Avenue. Residual delays remained at several other Route 70 intersections since re-routed traffic was trying to make its way back onto the state highway. The entire intersection was closed. A tow truck was observed removing a heavily-damaged vehicle from the intersection. Multiple ambulances, including one from Point Pleasant Beach, were responding to the scene. More information will be reported here as it is released.
