They dont need to lower the speed limit they need to ENFORCE IT! They need to enforce many of the driving laws here in NJ. The state deficit could be wiped out in less than 6 months. I use to drive 35K+ miles a year,I have driven from ME to FL to MO & everywhere BW. I have seen drivers ticketed far more in "real states" than here in NJ & they have much much lower insurance, accident & death rates…   more ›

because over 95% of MVA's where bikes are involved w/ cars, the operator of the automobile fails to see a motorcycle. When was the last time you heard of a motorcyclist rear ending 1 car,let alone 2 as in this case? There are many cases of bikers causing their own (solo) accidents but not usually causing the accident in car vs bike.   more ›

Township Hoping to Improve Route 70 Near Foodtown Site

Extra lane may help spur development of former Foodtown site

Brick officials will apply for a $400,000 grant which would fund a project to improve traffic flow and add a third lane to a portion of Route 70. The extra lane, as well as the widening of several portions of the roadway, would extend from east of the former Foodtown site to Chambers Bridge Road, said Business Administrator Scott Pezarras. The township has held meetings with state Sen. Andrew Ciesla [R-10] and officials with the state Department of Transportation about the plan to improve traffic flow in the area, which could make the site more attractive to tenants that could occupy the Foodtown site, Pezarras said. Township officials have said development of the former Foodtown site has been held up by a combination of the sour economy …

Authorities Clearing Accident at Intersection of Routes 70, 88

Multiple lanes closed on both roadways

Authorities were clearing an accident from the intersection of routes 70 and 88 in Brick where a vehicle reportedly overturned Thursday night. The accident was first reported just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday. By 10 p.m., police had blocked off several lanes of Route 70 and were directing eastbound traffic onto Princeton Avenue. Residual delays remained at several other Route 70 intersections since re-routed traffic was trying to make its way back onto the state highway. The entire intersection was closed. A tow truck was observed removing a heavily-damaged vehicle from the intersection. Multiple ambulances, including one from Point Pleasant Beach, were responding to the scene. More information will be reported here as it is released.

Police: Medical Emergency Precipitated 6 Car Accident

Pileup on Route 70 involved sent 9 to the hospital; one man was ejected from vehicle

Brick Police say a man experiencing a medical emergency set off a chain reaction Saturday night that led to a six-car traffic accident that sent nine people to area hospitals. According to Capt. John Rein, John Pflug, the driver of a 2011 Lexus RX SUV, suffered an apparent medical emergency while travelling westbound on Route 70. Pflug initially pulled the vehicle to the shoulder of the road but then accelerated into traffic near the Van Zile Road intersection. Great accurate detailed reporting. All the people who had posted on previous articles here and elsewhere who speculated about driving too fast, tailgating, raceway and more were doing just that... speculating. So tired of people who speculate without all the facts.... Sounds like it was a real accident and there was not much anyone could have done. Hope everyone is ok. Great job fire and rescue.   more ›
