Brick- A jury has found Brick resident Anthony DiGilio not guilty of vehicular homicide and assault by vessel in connection with a fatal Aug. 3, 2008 boating accident. The 1 a.m. accident rocked the Jersey Shore boating community and a subsequent investigation led to charges being brought against DiGilio, who was at the helm of a 27-foot Imperial performance boat when the accident occurred in the area where the Metedeconk River converges with Barnegat Bay in Brick. Brick- The fire that destroyed the Camp Osborn neighborhood during Superstorm Sandy was captured in an up-close video and uploaded to YouTube by way of a Mexican news site Oct. 31, 2012, but the video has only recently surfaced locally. The neighborhood, comprised of a mix of vacation bungalows and some newer, year-round homes, was nearly completely destroyed in the storm. Read more on Brick Patch. Event features live bands and prizes at Jenk's Club, Point Beach, April 21
Nine of the Jersey Shore’s top musicians will come together on April 21 at Jenks Club, Point Beach, to help the Monmouth and Ocean victims of Hurricane Sandy and the nurses of Ocean Medical Center. “Rock for the Nurses – Rock for the Shore” will start at 11 a.m. at Jenks Club at Jenkinson's, 300 Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Tickets are $30 per person (kids under 12 are free) and are available for advance purchase at Jenks Club, Bow-Kay Florist, Brick, and Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event at the door. All proceeds from the event will be divided among the Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund, which annually benefits the nurses of Ocean Medical Center by providing nursing …

Avon — Longtime Avon restaurateur Rob Fishman, owner of the Avon Pavilion, went to Borough Hall on Monday to show officials new blueprints for rebuilding the boardwalk mainstay. He left without a restaurant. Read more on Wall Patch Rumson — In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, those living along the Shrewsbury River in the hard-hit West Park section of Rumson rallied to sift through soggy debris, dry out their homes and rebuild. Foundation awards six grants to organizations in Sandy-battered communities
OceanFirst Foundation’s Relief and Recovery Grant Program is awarding six new grants totaling $93,000 to organizations in Point Pleasant Beach, Toms River and Monmouth County. The recipients are: Ocean Fire Co. #1, Point Pleasant Beach; Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, Toms River; Children’s Home Society, Toms River; Homes for All, Toms River; O.C.E.A.N., Inc., Toms River and United Way of Monmouth County, Farmingdale. "The foundation's grant program assists the efforts of nonprofit organizations in the New Jersey shore market area that are helping local families and individuals affected by Hurricane Sandy," says a prepared statement issued by the foundation. Others have had no power at all for 10 days
Gov. Christie told a gathering on Long Beach Island on Wednesday that the coming Nor'easter and anticipated snowfall would likely cause "a setback" in the work underway for full power restoration. Boy, he wasn't kidding. JCP&L, on its website, is acknowledging that the nor'easter has created new outages, often for customers who were hit with outages in the height of Sandy's destructive path, had power restored and are now in the cold darkness yet again. "Late Wednesday, heavy, wet snow and high winds from the nor'easter resulted in approximately 120,000 additional power outages in the Jersey Central Power & Light service territory," says the JCP&L website. Still 74,012 in the dark in Ocean and Monmouth counties
There are currently 28,176 JCP&L customers without power in Ocean County and 45,836 without power in Monmouth County, according to an update on the JCP&L website. Those numbers change constantly as crews continue to work on outages throughout the region. However, the nor'easter starting to move into the area may cause new outages as well as coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service. JCP&L, in a prepared statement, says: "Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has restored power to more than 900,000 of the 1.2 million JCP&L customers affected by Hurricane Sandy, marking five consecutive days where crews have restored at least 100,000 customers per day.
