Herbertsville Road is one out of seven roads county-wide to be resurfaced as part of a larger project that also includes roads in Toms River, Jackson and Long Beach Township. In all, 5.75 miles of roads will be replaced. All of the roads will be milled and resurfaced with new signage added, Freeholder Jack Kelly said. No injuries reported in afternoon blaze
Nobody was injured in a fire that rendered a house in the township's Herbertsville section uninhabitable Thursday afternoon. The fire at the ranch-style home at 512 Albermarle Road, which was reported at 2:30 p.m., led to a general alarm that brought out all four of the township's fire companies, Fire Marshall Kevin Batzel said. Batzel said the fire is officially still under investigation, but it is believed that improperly disposed-of ash from a wood burning stove is responsible for starting the fire. The fire started outside of the home and worked its way in, Batzel said, and the homeowner later told investigators that ash from the stove had been disposed of outside the home in the morning. Firefighters had the blaze under control in …

Burglary happened last week in the Herbertsville section
A burglar broke into a township resident's garage but fled the scene without having stolen any property, police said. The man, described as a white male, 180 to 200 pounds, clean shaven with dark hair, fled the scene in a champagne-colored four door sedan. The neighbor later told the homeowner, who was not home at the time, about the incident, and the homeowner called police, Rein said. Nothing was stolen during the break-in, but the garage window was damaged. Police located a vehicle nearby whose vehicle matched the description and interviewed its operator, but no arrest was made. Sylvia Beaton property is located on the Manasquan River in the Herbertsville section
The township council has authorized its half of the funding required to purchase Beaton Point, a property located in the Beverly Beach neighborhood in the Herbertsville section. The 9.6 acre tract is located on the Manasquan River. The county will foot the other half of the $1,257,000 price of the property. Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said that the unspoiled plot of land was once under consideration for six or seven homes, but outcry from residents caused the township to investigate the purchase. At one time, Acropolis said, the land was appraised at $6 million, but more recent appraisals significantly brought down the price of the plot. "We’re talking about a bluff overlooking the Manasquan River," Acropolis said. "We had an outcry of …

Group plans on working with T-Mobile
A planned cellular tower off Herbertsville Road has ruffled the feathers of members of the local historical society, but litigation is off the table, its leader said. T-Mobile is planning to build a cellular communications tower at the firefighter training facility off Herbertsville Road. The location of the proposed tower would be across the street from a number of buildings owned by the Brick Township Historical Society, said Jane Fabach, the group's president. "It changes the outlook of the landscape," Fabach said, of the proposed tower, the details of which are still in the planning stages. "We have Civil War soldiers marching there in August. You try to keep everything in character, and sometimes you don't want to bring something …

The only reason I care about Lakewood is that some of us have to drive through it to get to work. And I'm tired of my car being messed up because we know the town doesn't want to spend the money on fixing the roads. They are to busy spending tax payers money to build religious schools and new housing developments for a certain group of people. They don't care because all of their cars are messed …   more ›
