Progress on Fishing Pier, Park Moving Along

New county park scheduled to open in November on Mantoloking Road

Progress on a county fishing pier and park in Brick is moving along well, and is expected to be completed in November, Ocean County Freeholder John Bartlett told Brick Patch. Motorists passing by the future park site, on the northwest corner of the Mantoloking Bridge on the Brick side, have been able to see the construction of restroom facilities, gazebos and more in recent weeks, as construction on the $1.45 million project moves forward. Bartlett said once the project is complete, the park will include a 50-foot-long fishing and crabbing pier, two fish cleaning areas (one with running water), a modern restroom facility, a boardwalk along the bayfront, gazebos and picnic areas which will be located under the shadow of the bridge in the …

Smoking isn't allowed in school. As for the missing doors and such, that's probably what the new facilities will be like at the park and pier after a summer or two.   more ›

Brick Fishing Pier Will Remain Closed For Summer

A popular fishing pier made out of the remnants of the old Mantoloking Bridge will remain closed all summer, county officials confirmed. But when it reopens, there will be a new pier installed, improved parking and amenities at the site. Just before the Memorial Day holiday, anglers hoping to hook a striped bass, bluefish or summer flounder - all abundant near the pier - were met with a barrier and signs warning to stay out. The county-owned pier - a section of the old Mantoloking Bridge that was kept intact as a fishing area when the county built the current bridge several years ago - will remain closed until sometime in the fall, according to Michael Mangum, director of the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation.
