Parkway Project Will Demolish Old Overpasses in Toms River, Brick

County and NJ Turnpike Authority work together on plan for this year to widen roads and create new overpasses at three intersections

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the county are moving forward on plans to improve parkway overpasses and the roads below at three points in Brick and Toms River. Needed work on parkway overpasses, as well as widening the roads below, will lead to an overhaul at three Ocean County roads this year. The county and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, who oversees the Garden State Parkway, will begin work this year at: The work is part of the Garden State Parkway Shoulder Restoration and Widening Program. According to county spokesperson Donna Flynn, the project will widen overpasses by two spans (“spans” refers to the vertical piers on an overpass). There's no southbound exit 83. There's no way to get off the Parkway south between 88 and 82. What's wrong with this picture? There are lots of paying customers who live in, or otherwise have to get to, the big area between Rt. 70 and Rt. 37. Doesn't anybody up in HQ understand that?   more ›

County to OK Projects in Toms River, Brick, LBI

Toms River project to ease congestion; Brick project will upgrade Mantoloking Bridge fenders

The county's freeholder board is expected to give its OK to various projects in the area. A Bloomfield company is being hired to widen Church Road at North Bay Avenue in Toms River to ease congestion before the Garden State Parkway overpass is widened to allow the busy county road to be widened to three lanes beyond the toll road. Ocean County Engineer Frank Scarantino recommended the contract go to J.C. Contracting Inc. for its low bid of $391,183. The engineer said its price was 5 percent lower than the estimated cost of the project. Congestion at the intersection is expected to increase once a third entrance to Ocean County College opens off North Bay Avenue, he explained.
