Township Council Authorizes Purchase of Riverfront Tract

The township council has authorized its half of the funding required to purchase Beaton Point, a property located in the Beverly Beach neighborhood in the Herbertsville section. The 9.6 acre tract is located on the Manasquan River. The county will foot the other half of the $1,257,000 price of the property. Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said that the unspoiled plot of land was once under consideration for six or seven homes, but outcry from residents caused the township to investigate the purchase. At one time, Acropolis said, the land was appraised at $6 million, but more recent appraisals significantly brought down the price of the plot.
