Convenience stores robbed Sunday morning, cops say
Brick police are searching for a suspect in two armed robberies that occurred in town early Sunday morning. The 7-Eleven store on Route 88 and the Wawa on Lanes Mill Road were both robbed by a man with a knife. Police suspect the same person is responsible for both robberies. The first of the two robberies occurred at the 7-Eleven at about 4:20 a.m., said Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard. At that time, a person wearing a ski mask entered the store, brandished a knife and demanded money from the store employee. Jury finds man guilty of killing Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona
A jury in Arizona found a man guilty of first degree murder and robbery in the killing of a Point Borough woman who was attending college in Arizona, according to Fox News in Phoenix, AZ. Jose Luis Marquez, 22, was found guilty of first degree murder and robbery Monday morning in the slaying of Kyleigh Sousa, a Point Borough high school graduate who was attending Arizona State University (ASU). "A lot of tears were flowing when the family of the victim, 21-year-old Kyleigh Sousa, heard the guilty verdicts in court," reported Fox News. A man suspected of holding up a Silverton news shop is still on the loose, but Toms River Police released a drawing of the suspect. A female employee of Asby News and Varieties, Hooper Avenue, was approached by a white male and robbed of $200 at 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said. The suspect fled on foot, heading behind the plaza off Silver Bay Road. The suspect is believed to be a white male, about 6’ 3” wearing dark clothing, sunglasses and a dark hat at the time of the robbery. Police chief confirms robbery incident occurred after 2 p.m. at Ocean County Mall
Police are responding to a robbery incident at the Ocean County Mall just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. He said that at this time, the mall is open and there are no known injuries or threat to public safety. The police chief did not have more specific details as to the scope of the robbery, the victim or suspect. "The incident is still unfolding," Mastronardy said. The incident was in the vincinity of the JC Penney at the Ocean County Mall, Hooper and Bay avenues. However, the mall and its surrounding parking lots remain open. No further information is available at this time.

A man and woman believed to have stolen a video game fled on foot from the Ocean County Mall after the male suspect swung to hit security guards there Wednesday, police said. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy released two images from security cameras of two individuals police believe stole a $29.99 Sony PSP video game from the Sears department store at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Incident happened Friday afternoon at the Towne Hall Shoppes
Brick Police are investigating the robbery of an employee of a Subway restaurant that occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. Friday, Capt. John Rein said. An employee of the sandwich shop, located in the Towne Hall Shoppes shopping plaza off Brick Boulevard and Cedar Bridge Road, told police that while he was outside the rear door to the business he was approached by two men. One of the men pushed the victim up against a wall and punched him, Rein said, then the other man took money from his pocket. Brick resident now facing drug charges, prosecutor's office says
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Monday that a 31-year-old Berkeley Township man was stabbed and killed by a Brick man after he and an accomplice tried to enter the Brick man's residence with the intent of robbing it. Adam Ferguson was stabbed inside the Marilyn Drive home of Brick resident Joseph P. Bellisano, Jr., 27, after he and Mark A. Dillard, of South Toms River, attempted to rob the home, according to Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. An alert township resident and a Brick police officer with a keen eye led to the arrest of a Beachwood man suspected of burglarizing a Bryn Mawr Drive home on Saturday. The same man, Justin Lovgren, 25, had been arrested just two days before in connection with a string of robberies in Toms River which included the home of Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. Break-ins occurred on Larchwood Drive Tuesday
Brick police are searching for the driver of a green Dodge Dakota pickup truck seen fleeing from a street where two burglaries occurred on Tuesday. The two break-ins happened on Larchwood Drive, in a neighborhood off Chambers Bridge Road, between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 2 p.m, according to Sgt. Keith Reinhard. Both victims reported items taken from their home, including money, jewelry and electronics. According to Reinhard, one of the victims reported seeing a green Dodge Dakota, regular cab, pick-up truck parked in front of her house with the engine running and no one inside when she returned home. String of break-ins dates back to January, cops say
Brick Police are investigating a string of daytime burglaries that have occured between January and this week, according to Capt. John Rein. In all, 11 daytime residential burglaries have occured between Jan. 22 and March 16, Rein said. In all of the cases, the break-ins took place during daytime hours where the suspect or suspects entered the homes through rear windows or doors. Once inside the homes the suspects stole jewelry and money, Rein said. Police say they the burglaries occurred in the Breton Woods, Bay Harbor, Mallard Point and Lake Riviera neighborhoods.
