Re-opening date not released yet
A fire that started in the kitchen of The Shrimp Box restaurant in Point Beach caused some damage to the kitchen and roof, but was contained to a small area to prevent widespread damage, said Police Lt. Joseph Michigan. There were no injuries in the fire at the restaurant on Inlet Drive, said Michigan. He added that he is not sure when the restaurant can re-open. The fire, which was reported to the police department at 11:21 a.m. Wednesday was extinguished quickly, he said. The Point Beach Fire Department, the Point Borough Fire Department, the South Wall Fire Department, the Ocean County Fire Marshal's office, and the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, serving Point Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, responded to the scene. El Chico Cafe set to open in 6-8 weeks.
Patrons at the Ocean County Mall might have noticed construction near the Applebee's and Benihana restaurants and wondered what was cooking. El Chico Cafe, a restaurant franchise predominantly found in the southern states, is making its debut above the Mason-Dixon line this summer at the Ocean County Mall. Construction on the 5,600 square foot cantina-style restaurant is already under way and expected to open in 6-8 weeks. The restaurant, which owners said will bring approximately 60-70 full-time and part-time positions to Toms River, specializes in Mexican-styled cuisine. Dishes such as enchiladas, tamales and burritos are featured predominantly on the menu. A liquor license has been obtained and a full bar is planned for the location. …
