Two separate incidents reported by Point Beach police
This past weekend the Point Pleasant Beach police department arrested two individuals for the possession of heroin during two separate and unrelated incidents. A police press release states the following: "At about 1 a.m. Sat., Officer Marc Distelcamp attempted to make a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle for speeding on Arnold Avenue. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Stephanie Small, 23, of Lake Hopatcong, failed to stop. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle through the side streets of both Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough for approximately ten minutes. Darren Arms had just turned 50 in December
Darren Arms, the owner of Lenny's Colonial Ranch Meat Market, Bridge Avenue, Point Borough, died Sunday in Brick. Arms had just turned 50 in December. He had lived in Point Borough for many years and graduated from Borough High School. He has been living more recently on Parker Avenue off Princeton Avenue in Brick. Arms is the son of former Point Borough Mayor Lenny Arms, who started the business in 1974 and who now also lives in Brick. He also leaves behind his wife, Lisa, and their five children, Bryan; Brandon; Billy; Amanda and Jenny. He is also survived by Shannon, an older daughter. Coat collection for Dottie's House
The Point Borough Police and Community Watch are sponsoring a “Gift of Warmth” for children and other residents at Dottie’s House in Brick. "We are looking for folks willing to sponsor a child to provide a new coat and boots during the holiday season," said an email from Mary Furmato, a Community Watch official. The group is also collecting gently-used coats for women, cash donations to help offset Dottie House's heating expenses, and food store gift cards. Utility cautions that using generators can be dangerous

Jury finds man guilty of killing Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona
A jury in Arizona found a man guilty of first degree murder and robbery in the killing of a Point Borough woman who was attending college in Arizona, according to Fox News in Phoenix, AZ. Jose Luis Marquez, 22, was found guilty of first degree murder and robbery Monday morning in the slaying of Kyleigh Sousa, a Point Borough high school graduate who was attending Arizona State University (ASU). "A lot of tears were flowing when the family of the victim, 21-year-old Kyleigh Sousa, heard the guilty verdicts in court," reported Fox News. The two were in a red car that drove into water at Marine Parkway marina
Two teenagers suffered minor injuries after they drove their car into the Point Pleasant Canal at a marina at the end of Marine Parkway in Point Borough on Monday evening. The two had minor injuries, but did not need to be checked at a hospital and were released to their parents, authorities said. The Point Boro First Aid Squad, Point Borough Fire Department, its dive team and police were called to the scene around 5:35 p.m., authorities said. The emergency responders got the teens and then their car out of the water. Marine Parkway, off Bay Boulevard in the Borough's Bay Head Shores section, also intersects with Riviera Parkway where Nellie F. Bennett Elementary School is located. The trial of a man accused of killing Point Borough's Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona in May 2010 is just underway. Joseluis Marquez is fighting murder and burglary charges in the death of Sousa, who was 21 years old the night she died outside an International House of Pancakes (IHop) restaurant in Tempe, AZ. Kids painted pumpkins, did spin art, ate cotton candy
The Point Pleasant Borough Fall Festival at Community Park attracted hundreds on Saturday. Kids did spin art, painted pumpkins, got temporary tattoos, rode a train and ate cotton candy and popcorn, and adults listed to live bands or sampled beer or wine. There was a wide array of food and crafts and other items sold at vendors' booths. The bands Brue Crew and the Yard Monsters entertained the crowds. There were many local organizations manning tables, including a table staffed by moms raising money for Project Graduation scheduled for June 2013.
