Held at Ocean County jail on $200,000 bail
A Lakewood man has been arrested and charged in the April 8 armed robbery of the Walgreen's pharmacy, 1501 Richmond Ave. (Route 35 South), Point Pleasant Borough. John W. Praznic, 29, was arrested without incident on Friday April 26, in Lakewood by Point Pleasant Detectives Edward Miller and Joseph Hynes and Detective Lt. Adam Picca after an extensive investigation, according to Borough police. Praznic was charged with first degree armed robbery, third degree terroristic threats and third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, police said in a prepared statement issued Monday morning. Beach Sweeps collects garbage and more in Boro and Beach
A message in a bottle, a plastic bottle filled with sand, a flip flop, building materials, dog poop and lots of plastic were among the items found on the sand in Point Beach and Point Borough on Saturday. Skyler Kummer, 8, a Point Borough resident, found a message in a bottle during the Saturday morning Beach Sweeps at Maxson Avenue beach in the Borough. The message was sent on Oct. 9, 2012 by Robert Peters from a Spring Lake beach. Skyler notified Peters of the find and he said he had been hoping it would be found in South Africa rather than so close to home. "Skyler is very happy with her find," said Beth Degen, her mother. Two separate incidents reported by Point Beach police
This past weekend the Point Pleasant Beach police department arrested two individuals for the possession of heroin during two separate and unrelated incidents. A police press release states the following: "At about 1 a.m. Sat., Officer Marc Distelcamp attempted to make a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle for speeding on Arnold Avenue. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Stephanie Small, 23, of Lake Hopatcong, failed to stop. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle through the side streets of both Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough for approximately ten minutes. Darren Arms had just turned 50 in December
Darren Arms, the owner of Lenny's Colonial Ranch Meat Market, Bridge Avenue, Point Borough, died Sunday in Brick. Arms had just turned 50 in December. He had lived in Point Borough for many years and graduated from Borough High School. He has been living more recently on Parker Avenue off Princeton Avenue in Brick. Arms is the son of former Point Borough Mayor Lenny Arms, who started the business in 1974 and who now also lives in Brick. He also leaves behind his wife, Lisa, and their five children, Bryan; Brandon; Billy; Amanda and Jenny. He is also survived by Shannon, an older daughter. Traffic is shifted into eastbound lanes
Both westbound lanes of the Route 88 bridge in Point Borough are closed today until 3 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the state Department of Transportation (DOT). The traffic will be shifted into the eastbound lanes allowing one lane of traffic in each direction. This work will be coordinated with the ongoing work at this structure by the Army Corps of Engineers, says the DOT. Plan to close bridge in Point Pleasant cancelled due to high winds
The Route 88 bridge will remain open tonight, according to the state Department of Transportation (DOT). The original plan was for the bridge to be closed tonight until 5 a.m. Friday so a contractor for the Army Corps of Engineers could do work. However, "due to higher than normal winds they will not be working tonight and therefore the expected closure of the Rt 88 drawbridge will not be necessary tonight," according to a statement the DOT released Thursday night. Work will be done sometime after New Year's Day.

Coat collection for Dottie's House
The Point Borough Police and Community Watch are sponsoring a “Gift of Warmth” for children and other residents at Dottie’s House in Brick. "We are looking for folks willing to sponsor a child to provide a new coat and boots during the holiday season," said an email from Mary Furmato, a Community Watch official. The group is also collecting gently-used coats for women, cash donations to help offset Dottie House's heating expenses, and food store gift cards. Christie said all power in NJ would be restored by now
Despite assurances by Gov. Christie that the entire state would have power again by yesterday, there are thousands still in the dark in New Jersey, including 601 in just Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to the JCP&L outage map. As of 3:15 p.m. Monday, there are 441 outages in Monmouth and 160 in Ocean and about 3,100 outages among JCP&L customers in the 13 counties it serves, the map shows. In Morris County alone there are 739 JCP&L customers reporting outages. PSE&G has 278 outages on Monday afternoon, including 19 outages caused by Sandy and 259 caused by the nor'easter. Atlantic Electric has restored power to all customers who can safely be restored, said Frank Tedesco, company spokesman. He said there are 2,000 to 2,500 …

Jury finds man guilty of killing Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona
A jury in Arizona found a man guilty of first degree murder and robbery in the killing of a Point Borough woman who was attending college in Arizona, according to Fox News in Phoenix, AZ. Jose Luis Marquez, 22, was found guilty of first degree murder and robbery Monday morning in the slaying of Kyleigh Sousa, a Point Borough high school graduate who was attending Arizona State University (ASU). "A lot of tears were flowing when the family of the victim, 21-year-old Kyleigh Sousa, heard the guilty verdicts in court," reported Fox News.
