Sandy Cleanup Worker Dies After Being Hit by Car in Brick

Princeton Avenue accident that killed Long Branch man is under investigation

A Long Branch man working in Brick to clean up debris left by Superstorm Sandy was struck and killed by a car Friday morning on Princeton Avenue, police said. The accident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. Friday, as Paul Friedauer, 69, entered the roadway approximately 1,200 feet west of Beaver Dam Road to stop traffic as cleanup operations continued, said Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian. He was struck by 2004 Nissan Pathfinder SUV being driven by Karl P. Scheufler, 42, of Brick. Friedauer – who was working for the Glenside Equipment Company of Jackson – was propelled 125 feet due to the impact of the crash. Brick Contractor Fined $74K for Safety Violations

La Conti Concrete & Masonry Inc. cited for nine violations at a North Jersey work site

A Brick contractor was cited for nine safety violations and fined more than $74,000 by a federal agency Tuesday. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited La Conti Concrete & Masonry Inc., located on Mantoloking Road, for nine safety and health, including two repeat, violations at a Secaucus work site stemming from an investigation that took place in March. The department, in a statement, said the investigation took place after an "imminent danger" complaint was received. The complaint alleged employees were working on the fifth level of a supported scaffold without fall protection. The repeat safety violations, with a $53,900 penalty, involve failing to provide safe access to a scaffold and ensure workers were …

I agree Ernane. We workers are responsible for our own safety. The 1st step to safety is that the contractors n GC co. provoide a safe worl enviorment which is LAW !!! That's their job site. No one can be forced to work in an unsafe construction site. I'll taking into account your remark n be sure I don't do 120 MPh on the work site.
