A clothing and coat giveaway hosted by Operation Brick Food Relief will take place this weekend after being postponed due to weather last weekend. The giveaway will take place this Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. while supplies last. It will be hosted at the Operation Brick Food Relief storefront in the Bay Harbor Plaza (Stop 'n Shop) shopping center on Brick Boulevard. The giveaway will include clothing and coats from Uniqlo Clothing, as part of the company's "United in Warmth" program. Uniqlo's articles of clothing are specially designed to help people retain body heat and keep warm. Bay Harbor Plaza is located at 55 Brick Blvd. The storefront is located next to Hudson City Savings Bank.

Brick Food Relief group leads inauguration day service activity to relieve Sandy victims

Volunteers from Operation Brick Food Relief, a non-profit corporation, canvassed the hardest hit Brick neighborhoods over the weekend to seek out those who still needed help clearing out interior and exterior items damaged by Superstorm Sandy. OBFR had partnered with Hope Worldwide’s Central Jersey Chapter, a non-profit corporation that is made up of all volunteers dedicated to helping local communities. The overall event was part of the National Day of Service which coincides with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, as well as the presidential inauguration. Operation Brick Food Relief announced late Thursday night that it had found a permanent home for its Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. The group, which has been serving hot meals to storm victims since Sandy rolled ashore, formed at the Brick PAL building. But eventually, the PAL requested the group find a new base for its operations so the PAL's normal slate of activities could resume. After a few days at a Duchess Lane church, group organizers said their new home would be a storefront in Bay Harbor Plaza on Brick Boulevard, commonly known as the Stop 'n Shop plaza. Operation Brick Food Relief, a volunteer group that has been providing hot meals to those displaced by Superstorm Sandy since the storm struck, is now operating from a temporary location. After reaching an agreement late last month with the Police Athletic League to remain in their Drum Point Road building, the PAL once again asked the group to leave. The PAL had originally asked the group to leave after Thanksgiving so it could resume its normal slate of programs. Then, Operation Brick Food Relief volunteers protested the decision before the township council, from which they received support. But this time, the group left the building quietly. Food relief group will be allowed to remain at PAL building
A group offering free hot meals to Superstorm Sandy victims will continue to base their relief effort at the Brick Police Athletic League building on Drum Point Road. Operation Brick Food Relief has been providing Sandy victims with meals ever since the storm hit. The daily meals have continued to draw people ever since, often those who cannot live in their homes and have no other meal option besides costly dinners out at restaurants. The Brick PAL organization notified the group last week that it had to be out of the building by Nov. 23 so normal PAL programs could resume, but the PAL faced an immense backlash at the Nov. 20 Brick Township council meeting.
