Brick office receives more staff as summer influx expected; Ocean City office permanently destroyed, LBI office renovated
Comcast has said it has rebuilt 144 miles worth of cable infrastructure since Superstorm Sandy struck the Shore area and has hired extra staff for coastal area offices as an influx of seasonal customers is anticipated. Additional customer service employees and 170 extra technicians are to start work May 25, the company said in a statement this week. Additionally, at the company's offices in Brick, Absecon, Avalon, Northfield, Ocean City and Wildwood, the number of workstations "has been nearly doubled to provide more expedited, one-on-one attention for customers," the company said. Students from Brick, Toms River among the winners
For the fourth year in a row, a team of high school students from the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences (MATES) in Manahawkin was the winner of the New Jersey Envirothon, held Saturday, May 4 at Girl Scout Camp Kettle Run in Medford, the state's Department of Agriculture has announced. The team, consisting of Emily Golembiski of Little Egg Harbor, Jillian Hubbard of Toms River, Gillian Schriever of West Creek, Michael Signorelli of Toms River and Megan Tumpey of Brick, will represent New Jersey in the 2013 North American Envirothon at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana in August. Ocean County expects to distribute approximately $200,000 for Superstorm Sandy relief and recovery. The freeholders authorized the submission and execution of the county's Fiscal Year 2013 Action Plan Wednesday. The plan outlines recommended municipal projects and how funding will be allocated through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and how HOME programs will be distributed. Brick- A jury has found Brick resident Anthony DiGilio not guilty of vehicular homicide and assault by vessel in connection with a fatal Aug. 3, 2008 boating accident. The G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program continues to grow throughout the county, as the Office of the Ocean County Prosecutor partners with law enforcement departments to prevent gang recruitment, Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said. “Law enforcement must take proactive measures to prevent the spread of crime and violence,” he said. “The G.R.E.A.T. program does that for those we hold most precious — our children.” G.R.E.A.T. is a curriculum instructed by law enforcement officers to prevent delinquency, violence and gang membership. Barnegat Bay will be open by Memorial Day Weekend
Ocean County expects to receive approximately $40 million in reimbursements for some services performed following Superstorm Sandy within a couple weeks. The project worksheets for just debris removal are in their final stages of approval and the county will be receiving a check soon, Administrator Carl Block said at the Board of Chosen Freeholders’ pre-board meeting. “There is movement,” Block said. The $40 million is just a fraction of the $60 million the county has put out for debris removal. The county paid for the services of AshBritt and Louis Berger Group Inc. upfront, for some municipalities. Once the county is reimbursed, municipalities will pay their share, Block said. Arora and Associates, a Lawrenceville-based consulting civil and structural engineering firm, released a video Wednesday that contains stunning footage of the Mantoloking breach created by Superstorm Sandy. The video chronicles the efforts of the company's employees to engineer a solution to closing the breach, shoring up the island and rebuilding Route 35 and the base of the Mantoloking Bridge intersection.

Brick- The fire that destroyed the Camp Osborn neighborhood during Superstorm Sandy was captured in an up-close video and uploaded to YouTube by way of a Mexican news site Oct. 31, 2012, but the video has only recently surfaced locally. Nine of the Jersey Shore’s top musicians will come together on April 21 at Jenks Club, Point Beach, to help the Monmouth and Ocean victims of Hurricane Sandy and the nurses of Ocean Medical Center. “Rock for the Nurses – Rock for the Shore” will start at 11 a.m. at Jenks Club at Jenkinson's, 300 Ocean Avenue on the boardwalk. Christie administration announces compromise on 'pots off the reefs' issue; new reef to be built off Ocean County
The state will build a new artificial reef off Ocean County that will provide fishing grounds solely for recreational anglers. In a move that Gov. Chris Christie's administration hopes will mark the end of a long feud between commercial fishermen and recreational anglers, commercial boats will continue to be allowed to fish on two reefs in state waters while the new reef – which will be built north of Barnegat Inlet – will be reserved for the recreational sector. For years, recreational anglers have pushed for laws to be created that would ban commercial fishermen from utilizing the state's inshore reefs, which were paid for through excise taxes on recreational fishing equipment. @A Resident. It was a long time ago (8-9 years ago) and only for a year. I don't think anyone else was "paying my share" rather I think Comcast operates on a high margin and there is room to haggle. I havn't had many service issues with them over the years.
