County, Brick, Lakewood Cops Seize Drugs, Cash, Weapons; 7 Arrested

Arrest is culmination of prosecutor's office investigation

The execution of a search warrant last Friday night yielded a cache of drugs, two weapons and $1,000 cash, authorities said, and resulted in seven arrests. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Operations Group, along with members of the Lakewood and Brick Township police departments executed the warrants at houses at 1200 Jeffrey Street and 1405 Marshall Street in Lakewood, a statement from Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said. Police also executed search warrants on two vehicles, specifically, a 2006 gray Hyundai Sonata and a 2003 silver Mercury sedan. "Crime Scene" Tape Blocks Off House Where 2-Year-Old Lakewood Girl Was Found In Septic Tank

Police tape nearly surrounded the site Tuesday where a 2-year-old girl was found dead at the bottom of a septic tank last night as prosecutors coninued to investigate the tragedy. Tape labeled "Crime Scene/Do Not Cross" blocked off a vacant house where children's toys sat in the yard, as police and media vehicles descended on the scene. The girl's mother, Marina Matias, called police at 4:49 p.m. to report her child was missing. Police and emergency service personnel went to the East Spruce Street home and began searching for the little girl, identified as "J.C." Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said. The mother was inside the house tending to a 2-month-old baby while her four other children played in the backyard, Ford told Patch late Monday…

Drugs, Cash, Car Recovered in Raid; Brick Residents Arrested

Authorities raided houses in Brick, Lakewood as part of drug investigation

An investigation into drug activity culminated in raids on houses in Brick and Lakewood, ultimately resulting in the arrest of three people, including two Brick residents. Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Special Operations Group along with members of the Brick Township Police Department executed a search warrant at 711 Eastern Lane Jan. 25, according to a statement from Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford. A home at 1416 Brookfield Drive in Lakewood, as well as a 2002 Mercedes-Benz car were also searched, authorities said. As a result of the search warrants police seized approximately one half ounce of cocaine, a quantity of marijuana, a .357 caliber handgun and approximately $27,000 in cash. Charges Pending in Lakewood New Years Eve Stabbing

Authorities have not released the name of the victim or suspect in the case

Charges are pending against an unidentified suspect in a stabbing that occurred minutes before midnight on New Years Eve. Authorities have yet to release the names of the victim or suspect in the case, but say Lakewood police were called to the Lakewood American Legion post on River Avenue at 11:55 p.m. after a stabbing was reported. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman with a slash wound to her neck, according to a statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford. The suspect in the case apparently stabbed himself in the neck prior to the arrival of police, Lynch said. The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment. The suspect was transported to a local hospital. Criminal …

Man Indicted on Sexual Assault, Child Porn Charges

A 45-year-old Lakewood man is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, recording the sex acts, and distributing them as child pornography, according to an Ocean County grand jury. Kevin G. Gomez of Cedar Bridge Avenue, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of the child. He is also charged with endangering the welfare of a 16-year-old through his sexual conduct at the same time – between September and February in Lakewood. The grand jurors accused him of photographing or filming acts with the younger child to endanger her welfare, and with having child pornography. Gomez is being held in lieu of $225,000 bail at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River. Also indicted were:

Indictment Handed up in Decade-Old Rape, Kidnapping of Teen

Pennsylvania man is facing charges

A Pennsylvania man is facing charges he kidnapped and raped a 15-year-old girl more than a decade ago in Lakewood. Luis G. Vargas, 29, of Overlook Drive, Labelle, Pa., is accused of abducting the girl on Feb. 5, 2001 in Lakewood, raping and assaulting her while armed with a knife, and endangering her welfare. The charges were included in an indictment voted against him by an Ocean County grand jury last week. Vargas is currently an inmate at Pennsylvania's State Correctional Institute, Fayette, Pa. His bail on the new charge is $500,000 with the condition that he not contact the victim. No photo of Vargas was available.
