Picture: Unseasonably warm weather brings out golfers

Temperatures topping 60 degrees on Tuesday, Dec. 4, made any outdoor destinations the place to be, particularly at the Forge Pond County Golf Course.

An unseasonably nice day lured retirees -- and maybe a few looking to play hooky from work -- to the links at the Forge Pond County Golf Course on Chambers Bridge Road. Weather.com listed today's high at 67 degrees. Wednesday's forecast is expected to drop to a still warm 57 degrees with a chance of a morning shower. While the golfers pictured marveled at the wonderful day, none of them wanted to discuss their scores.

Eliminating Golf Memberships Short-Sighted

Bey Lea Golf Course member says proposal pushes out long-time supporters

I am writing to the Toms River Patch as a lifelong resident of Toms River.  For 39 years, I have been a part of a group of avid golfers and other Toms River residents that play golf at Bey Lea Golf Course. We are at the course almost every morning all year long, playing in the hot summer heat, the rain and even in the frigid cold of March. Getting exercise while playing golf with lifelong friends has allowed many of us to stay healthy long into our 80s. We all love the game of golf and it is a huge part of our lives. It is also a big part of the quality of life that makes Toms River special for all us. Golf Fees Set to Rise

Brick's Forge Pond course, as well as Atlantis in Little Egg Harbor, will hike fees

The recession's toll on the Ocean County budget will bite golfers in the wallet next year. Rates are going up at the Forge Pond county course in Brick and at Atlantis in Little Egg Harbor Township, according to Freeholder John C. Bartlett Jr. "The golf courses have to pay for themselves,'' Bartlett said, repeating the policy that has covered them since the county bought Atlantis and built Forge Pond. Rates will go up $3, except for senior citizens, who will see a $2 increase, he said. Forge Pond is a 3,916-yard par 60 executive course off Chambers Bridge Road in Brick. Atlantis is a regulation course of 6,848 yards with a par of 72 on Country Club Boulevard in Little Egg Harbor. "We're going to be looking at all our fees this year,'' …
