Brick Gas Station Owners: Don't Blame Us For High Prices

Area gas stations are feeling the economic pinch as much as anyone, local station owners say

If you don’t blame the messenger for bad news, don’t blame your local gas station owner for higher fuel prices, they say. Gas station owners say they're feeling the pain at the pump as much as anyone. In fact, revenue is somewhere between flat and slightly down at local gas stations, since many are shying away from paying amost $3, or more, per gallon. “People are frustrated,” said Jeff Bevacqua, owner of Joe’s Service Center and Towing on Mantoloking Road. Bevacqua’s service station includes a Liberty gas station on the premises. A gallon of regular fuel cost $2.96 per gallon on Monday, Jan. 10 at Liberty. Premium was selling for $3.26 per gallon. Despite the skyrocketing prices, gas station owners aren’t laughing all the way to the bank…

It doesn't help when the oil producing states limit the amount of oil produced to keep prices high. That, plus a leak in the Alaskan Pipeline that transports oil from Alaska to the states. are causing most of the problems.
