8:30 PM Update: State of emergency declared as local crews continue snow plowing effort

State of emergency declared

 A state of emergency has been declared as the height of a storm forecast to dump up to 18 inches of snow on the region rolled through Sunday night. Brick Twp. public works crews manned snow plows and began clearing local streets. The township's policy on snow removal calls for plows to operate after snow has accumulated to more than 4 inches. At about 8 p.m., acting Governor and Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney signed an order declaring a state of emergency throughout New Jersey due to the dangerous snow conditions. "It is vital that police and public works crews are able to do their jobs," said Sweeney. "I urge all residents to take this declaration and this storm seriously, and to stay safe, stay home and stay off the roads. We …
