Tidal Flooding Hits Some Neighborhoods, Breaches Reported on Barrier Island

No rescues, however, and few reports of water intrusion into homes

The midday high tide Thursday caused water to overflow bulkheads in some Brick Township neighborhoods, but no one had to be rescued and there were few reports of water intruding into residential homes. Some streets, but not all, in the Shore Acres neighborhood were under water, and bay water was overflowing the lagoon along Paul Jones Drive in that area. Most streets, however, remained passable. It was a similar story in the Cherry Quay section, where many streets were under water, but generally passable. In Seawood Harbor and off St. Lawrence Boulevard, there was no obvious flooding, though it was clear the neighborhood had seen some very minor tidal flooding earlier judging by a small amount of debris in the road. Karen, this isn't true. The water level isn't higher because of debris because at low tide the bay still empties, it's not a corked bottle. If it's higher it's because of wind direction or a breach at the ocean front.   more ›

Second Victim of Cherry Quay Crash Succumbs to Injuries

Death of Steven M. Wilson, 21, brings township's auto death toll to 6 in 2012, double 2011's number

The passenger in a vehicle involved in a Nov. 24 crash on Cherry Quay Road died early Tuesday morning at a local hospital, officials said. Brick resident Steven M. Wilson, 21, was a passenger in the 2009 Infiniti G37 being driven by Waleed M. Emara, 23, who died at Jersey University Medical Center, Neptune, the day after the accident. Wilson died just after 2 a.m. Tuesday at the same hospital. Wilson had been listed in critical condition there since the accident occurred, officials said. Though the investigation into the crash is continuing, Brick Police Sgt. David Bedrosian said Tuesday that excessive speed and the fact that the occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seat belts "played a significant factor in the extent of their …
