Trucks haven't been delivered yet, officials said
When can Brick residents begin using their shiny, new blue automated recycling cans? The answer: it's not yet known. "We're hoping to have some trucks by the end of this week," Public Works Director Glenn Campbell said Tuesday. The trucks, he said, were supposed to leave a manufacturing plant April 17 to be delivered to the township, but they did not. The trucks – eight in all – are slated to come in two at a time, Campbell said. "Will have them over the next four weeks," he said. In January, the township council awarded a $2,064,120 contract for the trucks to Gran Turk Company of Bridgeport, Pa. That contract called for the Peterbilt trucks to be delivered to the township within 180 days, or six months, meaning the company has not …

Township still waiting on trucks to come on
Don't use those big, blue recycling cans just yet! Township officials have nearly finished distributing automated recycling cans to residents, but the trucks which will eventually lift them off the curb are still on their way, officials said this week. Councilman Jim Fozman said four of the eight trucks ordered are due to arrive April 19, with the remaining four due to be delivered May 17. Fozman said collections will likely begin after the first four trucks are delivered. Councilwoman Susan Lydecker said the township will notify residents once the new cans can be used by way of a robo-call to residents. The township will also put the word out on Facebook. Brick Patch will also post a notice when automated collections will begin In other …

Automated recycling expected to begin in 4-6 weeks
Brick residents will begin receiving automated recycling cans Wednesday. The 95-gallon cans will be the same size as residents' current trash cans, and as a result, pickup will be switched to a bi-weekly schedule from weekly pickup. The township expects the assembly and delivery of the cans to all residents' homes will be complete in four to six weeks. Once every home in the township has an automated can, the town will begin its automated collection, Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said in a statement. "The move to automated recycling will provide long term savings to taxpayers through decreased landfill tipping fees and increased recycling revenue," said Acropolis. "Based on our conversations with other towns that automated their recycling, we…

Losing bidder objects, however
The township council unanimously awarded a contract to a Pennsylvania company to deliver eight automated recycling collection trucks to Brick. The council awarded a $2,064,120 contract for the trucks to Gran Turk Company of Bridgeport, Pa. The contract calls for the trucks – Peterbilt models – to be delivered within 180 days, though Public Works Director Glenn Campbell has said the trucks may be delivered as early as April. The township will eventually purchase 95 gallon cans which will be compatible with the trucks, with each household in town being issued one. Recycling collection, once the program is in place, will shift to once every other week instead of a once per week schedule. The move to automated recycling is expected to generate…

State tonnage grants awarded to N.J. communities
Brick Township will receive $111,039 from the state in the form of a recycling tonnage grant. The grant is based on how many tons of recyclable materials a municipality collects in a given year, and dovetails with what has been a consistent message proclaimed by township officials: recycling means cash back to the community. "Recycling is an easy and effective way to keep our towns and communities beautiful while having a positive impact on our environment," said Senator James Holzapfel, whose office announced the grant amounts this week. "The DEP’s Recycling Tonnage Grant awards enable our municipalities to continue to provide an important service to their residents." The latest grants were based on 2010 tonnage amounts. The Brick …

Switch covered under 2012 capital budget
Township council members voted on first reading Tuesday night to approve a bond measure that will allow Brick to switch to automated recycling pickup. Automated recycling pickup, also known as "robo-recycling," uses trucks and cans similar to the township's automated trash pickup, which has been in existence for many years. To get the program started, the township will bond $3,709,085 this year which will cover the purchase of six automated trucks, about 30,000 cans and dumpsters for condominium units and schools. The bond will provide for other equipment for the Public Works department, as well, including two front-loader trucks. "As soon as we're able to get the trucks and all the cans out to the residents, we're going to be kicking that…

Try to stay of topic Bru Mil. According to your comment we should go around the neighborhood and collect all the warped, damaged new blue pails and pile them up and then call BTPW to come get them? Okay, when will they deliver new, undamaged ones to our neighborhood? smh...   more ›
