Jury finds man guilty of killing Kyleigh Sousa in Arizona

A jury in Arizona found a man guilty of first degree murder and robbery in the killing of a Point Borough woman who was attending college in Arizona, according to Fox News in Phoenix, AZ. Jose Luis Marquez, 22, was found guilty of first degree murder and robbery Monday morning in the slaying of Kyleigh Sousa, a Point Borough high school graduate who was attending Arizona State University (ASU). "A lot of tears were flowing when the family of the victim, 21-year-old Kyleigh Sousa, heard the guilty verdicts in court," reported Fox News. "Sousa's mother was seen in the front row, holding an ASU Sun Devil shirt on her lap." Karen Montenegro, Kyleigh's mother, has been in Arizona for the trial. 'Jersey Shore' Cast Member Arrested on Disorderly Conduct Charge in Seaside Heights

Deena Cortese disrupted traffic, police say.

A cast member of the Jersey Shore show was arrested this afternoon in Seaside Heights after a police officer saw her appearing intoxicated and disrupting the flow of traffic, Detective Steven Korman said. Deena Cortese, 25, of New Egypt, was charged with disorderly conduct after the 3:48 p.m. incident, he said. Cortese and some other Jersey Shore cast members were in Spicy's Mexican Cantina at 500 Boardwalk near the intersection of Sumner Avenue and Ocean Terrace before the incident occurred, he said. Cortese went outside and started dancing in the middle of the street, disrupting the flow of traffic, he said. "Patrolman Chris Linnell placed her under arrest," Korman said. "Traffic was building up and the officer had to act, obviously."

Teen Charged With Home, Vehicle Burglaries

Cops: 16-year-old admitted stealing from a residence, vehicles

A 16-year-old Sawmill Road resident has been arrested and charged with burglarizing vehicles and a home. Brick Police Sgt. Keith Reinhard said patrol units were dispatched to Karen Lane around 3:30 a.m. Monday in reference to a possible vehicle burglary. A resident informed officers that he saw two people looking into the windows of his neighbors' vehicles with flashlights. Officers on scene found three vehicles that had been entered, with the only item taken being a charger for a GPS unit, Reinhard said. While Officer Kris DeMarco was completing his report on the incident, he noticed a juvenile riding his bicycle in the area of Lanes Mill Road and Sawmill Road, Reinhard said. Brick Police Arrest Three With 250 Bags of Heroin

Bust came after two-month long investigation, cops say

Following a two-month long investigation into heroin distribution, members of the Brick Police Drug Enforcement Unit arrested three people on Thursday and recovered 250 bags of heroin. The arrest came after officers stopped a suspect vehicle at 7:56 p.m. on Route 88 near Younger Street, Brick Police Capt. John Rein said. The vehicle was being driven by Russell Bailey Jr., 49, of Buckner Street, Point Pleasant, and occupied by Stan Kilmartin, 37, of President Avenue, Lavallette, and Helena Zalom, 34, also of President Avenue, Lavallette. Both Kilmartin and Zalom had outstanding warrants for their arrest, Rein said. Officers recovered 250 bags of heroin, drug paraphernalia and $2,020 in cash during their investigation. Brick Pair Indicted On Drug Charges

Two young men were caught with large amount of marijuana in Herbertsville Road traffic stop

A grand jury on Thursday handed up an indictment of two Brick men on drug charges. Austin Copland, 20, of Primrose Lane., and Robert Steel, 19, of Stratford Drive. each were indicted on one count of drug possession and one count of drug possession with the intent to distribute, according to the indictment. The charges stem from a Feb. 15 arrest in Wall Township. The two were pulled over on Herbertsville Road for not maintaining a lane and use of a cell phone without a hands-free device and found to have more than a pound of marijuana in the car, police have said.

Brick, Lakewood Residents Arrested in Stolen Vehicle

Officers stopped 1995 Chevy Cavalier on Chambers Bridge Road

Officers arrested a Lakewood man and a Brick man after stopping the stolen vehicle in which they were driving. Officer Candace Lambert was on routine patrol in the area of Route 70 and Chambers Bridge Road when she conducted a random license plate check on a 1995 Chevy Cavalier around 3:10 p.m. Thursday, according to Capt. John Rein. The plate number revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Lakewood. Lambert, along with Sergeants Steve Gerling and Dave Bedrosian and Officers Paul Catalina and Brian Farnkopf, conducted a felony motor vehicle stop on the Cavalier near the intersection of Chambers Bridge Road and Salmon Street, Rein said. After Fleeing Troopers, Juveniles in Stolen Car Arrested in Brick

4 juveniles had fled troopers in car stolen from Alloway Township

A police pursuit which began on the Garden State Parkway ended in the Vanada Woods development of Brick Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest of four juveniles who police said were driving a stolen vehicle. Around 3 a.m. Wednesday, according to Brick Police Capt. John Rein, state troopers contacted Brick police and said they were attempting to stop a vehicle on the Garden State Parkway that had been reported stolen from Alloway Township, Salem County. Brick Man Indicted in Assault on Officers

Sergio D. Reyes-Carvajal is free on bail

An Ocean County grand jury has indicted a Brick man arrested in February after an altercation with Brick police officers. Sergio D. Reyes-Carvajal, 34, of Burrsville Road, is charged with aggravated assaults on Brick Ptl. Sean Flynn, Brian Farnkopf, Patrick Mulcahey and Paul Catalina on Feb. 17. He is also accused of throwing a body fluid at the officers and resisting Flynn’s attempt to arrest him. Reyes-Carvajal was approached by Flynn after he spotted him standing near a silver Acura that fit the description of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident on Hooper Avenue earlier that same day, Capt. OC Sheriff Makes 4 Brick Arrests in February

Four arrested in Brick by Ocean County Sheriff's officers in February

Four Brick residents were arrested by the Ocean County Sheriff's Office in February. Undersheriff Wayne Rupert said officers made 230 arrests through Feb. 28 and extradited seven fugitives from out of state to face charges in Ocean County.
