Eric Kim died when his boat and "No Surrender" crashed
A man from the Colonia section of Woodbridge died after his boat and another boat collided on the ocean off Long Branch, state police said on Monday morning. Eric Kim, 31, died after his boat was struck off Long Branch by "No Surrender," a 38-foot boat piloted by Thomas Oloughlin, 44, of Princeton, on Saturday afternoon, said Sgt. Brian Polite. Kim's passenger, Soo Lee, 34, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, suffered cuts, but was not seriously injured, Polite said. Polite said police are not releasing the names of the passengers aboard "No Surrender," but did say that the pilot and passengers were not injured. Both cars left the roadway in overnight accidents one hour apart; drivers charged
Two cars involved in separate single-vehicle crashes left the pavement on Drum Point Road within an hour Thursday morning, resulting in motor vehicle charges for the two drivers. In the first accident, which occurred at midnight, a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt left the westbound lane of the road while approaching South Community Drive on the lefthand side and struck a mailbox, then a tree, Brick Police Capt. John Rein said. The driver, 24-year-old Kaitlyn Dennis, of Brick, was not injured. Dennis was issued a summons for improper use of a cell phone after admitting to police that she was texting when the accident occurred, Rein said. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. A 48-year-old Point Pleasant man was killed in Brick Wednesday morning after his bicycle collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 88, police said. The crash occurred at 8:58 a.m. near the intersection of Route 88 and Coolidge Drive, across from Midstreams Road, leaving the state highway and some adjacent streets closed for about four hours. The victim's name was not released pending notification of next-of-kin, police said. Sgt. David Bedrosian said the tractor-trailer had been stopped for the red traffic light on Route 88 westbound at the intersection with Coolidge Drive. Teen crossed lanes against "Do Not Walk" sign, police say
A 16-year-old Brick Township resident on a skateboard was struck by a minivan while crossing a busy intersection Friday night just after 10 p.m., police said. Traffic was detoured on Route 70 near the intersection with Route 88 for about two hours after the accident, in which a 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan being driven by Michael E. Dejuana Jr., 21, of Brick, struck a 16-year-old juvenile who was riding a skateboard, said Brick Police Officer Scott Dierking. The teen, whose identity was not released, was riding across the eastbound lanes of Route 70 against a "do not walk" signal and had crossed three lanes before being hit by Dejuana, who had a green light at the time, Dierking said. Man had crashed into traffic light and utility pole
A 75-year-old Brick man died after crashing his car into a traffic light and utility pole at the corner of Bridge and Bay avenues, said Police Chief Larry Williams. "The Point Pleasant Police Department is investigating a single vehicle accident which occurred last evening about 9:35 p.m.," Williams said. The victim was pronounced dead at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, where he was transported by the Point Boro First Aid Squad, he said. "The victim, who was alone at the time of the accident, struck the control box for the traffic light as well as a utility pole," Williams said. Toms River emergency responders on scene
Update 9 p.m.: The accident is cleared and traffic is moving freely. Some traffic delays were being reported Thursday evening on the Garden State Parkway's southbound lanes at mile marker 85.9 near the border of Brick and Toms River as a result of a car fire. The right and center lanes were blocked at 7:50 p.m. following an accident that left a car overturned and on fire, according to state officials. Firefighters from Pleasant Plains and Toms River Fire District 2 were responding, alongside Toms River Police EMS. A moderate traffic delay was reported in the general vicinity, which is just north of the Toms River toll plaza.

Man was on Sea Lion based in Brielle
The Coast Guard is not releasing the name, age, hometown or any other information about a middle-aged man who died when he was out scuba diving on Sunday morning. All information is being withheld at least until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation and it is not yet known how long that investigation will take, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Cynthia Oldham of Coast Guard Public Affairs. The man had been diving from The Sea Lion, a commercial diving vessel based at Union Landing Marina, Union Lane, Brielle, and was about three mlles offshore when he was reported in distress, according to the Coast Guard. A scuba diver died Sunday morning after what Coast Guard officials said was a dive accident just three miles off the Manasquan coast. Coast Guard watchstanders at Station Manasquan Inlet received a radio hail at approximately 8:40 a.m. from a crewmember aboard the commercial dive vessel Sea Lion, Brielle, reporting a dive accident approximately 3 miles out to sea, a Coast Guard spokesman said. A crewmember aboard the Sea Lion stated that a diver exited the water experiencing shallow breathing and was in need of medical assistance, according to the spokesman. Early morning crash sent four to hospital
An early morning accident damaged three vehicles and resulted in injuries to four people, with one facing multiple motor vehicle charges including driving while intoxicated. The accident occurred at 1:49 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of routes 70 and 88, according to Brick Police Sgt. David G. Bedrosian. Police say Bryan Vanderburgh, 27, of Brick, was driving a 2012 Nisssan Frontier pickup and violated the red light signal as he was traveling eastbound on Route 70, approaching the Laurelton exchange. His vehicle struck a 1994 Acura Integra driven by Edwin Triana, 28, of Toms River, who was proceeding through the intersection on Route 88 in the westbound direction. Women were struck by a pickup truck near the New Jersey Transit bus stop; Route 9 reopened
Three Lakewood women were seriously injured Fright night after they were struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Route 9 at Frederick Drive, Sgt. Philip Smith said. Although Route 9 was closed for almost two hours after the accident, it is now open both northbound and southbound, police said. The women - all from Morris Boulevard in Lakewood - had just been dropped off by a southbound New Jersey Transit bus at the bus stop near Frederick Drive when the accident occurred.
