Are Brick's Streets Properly Patched After Construction Projects?

Resident complains his street was never repaired to neighbors' satisfaction

Tunes Brook Drive is, by most accounts, a peaceful street. Situated on the Tunes Brook Branch of Kettle Creek, the road is near Brick's southern border, and the waterway from which it derives its name provides residents with a quick outlet to Barnegay Bay. But since a Brick Municipal Utilities Authority sewer project last year, neighbors say their street has lost its peaceful feeling, as drivers are jolted by pot holes and deteriorating patchwork. It's the same situation in the northern part of town, where residents of Bluff View Drive deal with many of the same issues, also following a BTMUA sewer line project about two years ago. The issue is receiving attention from township officials after a Tunes Brook Drive resident pleaded his …

Brick's 2012 Capital Budget Passes

Ground laid for future debate, however

Brick's township council unanimously authorized bonds to support its $8,798,100 capital program Tuesday night. The capital program will fund a switch to automated recycling pickup in town, the paving of several roads, the rehabilitation of the police firing range, among other items, officials have said. But the ground may have been laid at Tuesday night's township council meeting for future debate on the specifics as to how the money should be spent. "The capital budget is a cooperative effort," said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis, warning that he could decline to sign contracts to spend the funding on projects favored by the Democrat-controlled council – just as the council could decline to authorize contracts on projects favored by the …

Vote on Brick's Capital Budget Set for Tuesday

Budget will fund automated recycling program, other items

The township's capital budget is expected to come up for a final vote this week. Last month, the township council introduced bond ordinances worth $8,798,100 to fund the 2012 capital program. On Tuesday, the council will consider the ordinances on second, final reading following a public hearing on the spending plan. The capital budget includes appropriations for automated recycling, paving projects, recreation improvements, repairs to the township's police firing range and other items. The bond ordinances introduced last month are in addition to $34 million in bonding to cover the construction of the French's Landfill solar project, however the project's developer – not Brick Township taxpayers – will repay that loan. The largest item …

"Seen Enough" I certainly agree with being disappointed in the 4 new council members. But ask, how could anyone also qualify the other 3. While still to early to say these new members are/were as bad for Brick as the removed 4, they're turning into more of the same.   more ›

Capital Budget to Fund Drainage, Paving Projects

New press box for Brick Little League in budget as well

In addition to funding a transition to automated recycling and repairs needed at the township's police firing range, the 2012 capital budget will provide for a number of improvement projects around town. The budget, which will be considered on second reading at the June 12 council meeting, sets aside $2,216,000 for various road projects, including paving and drainage improvements. Areas slated for improvements include Hendrickson Avenue, Lakewood Gardens, Bay Harbor Estates and Riviera Estates. "The potential costs of ignoring problems far outweighs the cost of repairing them," said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis, adding that the projects are "essential for the community." In addition to the road projects, the capital budget includes $300,000 …
