This Week in Brick Sports: Two Full Weeks in the Books

Rain constantly playing a part in spring sports schedules for Brick schools.

April showers bring May flowers, right?

For everyone at the Jersey Shore, the constant flow of rain has been nothing but a nuisance -- and that speaks persistently in the eyes of athletes and fans of the school teams.

Nonetheless, let's take a look to see how our teams are matching up mid-way through April.

Mustangs

It was a tough week for the Brick Memorial baseball team. On Monday afternoon, the Mustangs were clearly over-matched, and despite a comeback to draw within a run, Jackson Memorial was able to pull off a 14-4 mercy victory after 5 2/3 innings.

Thursday night was much of the same for Brick Memorial. Kevin Nilsen started at Toms River North, but lasted just three innings in an 11-3 loss. The team's record stands at 2-3, and plays at Manchester Township on Monday afternoon.

It was a busy week for the Mustangs' boys lacrosse team. The Mustangs earned their first win of the season on Monday in a 14-2 win at Barnegat. Ryan Porter led the way for the Mustangs, scoring four goals while Ryan Calmon and Dan Erickson each added two goals.

Kurt Delldonne led the team with three assists. Calmon was the face-off man for Memorial, going 8-9 and goalie Drew Lamela made six saves.

The team lost back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday. Calmon scored the lone goal in a 17-1 loss at Red Bank Regional on Wednesday, and Porter scored a team-high three goals in a 14-7 loss at Toms River East. The Mustangs are 1-4.

The Lady Mustangs softball team was impressive in their only game this week, a 10-1 win over Toms River North. They are 3-0.

On Monday, the Lady Mustangs lacrosse team earned an impressive victory at Lacey, 16-8, and followed with a 12-4 home win over rival Jackson Memorial on Wednesday, but fell 12-10 against Toms River North on Friday afternoon. Their record is 5-3.

Dragons

Brick baseball won its only game of the week, a 5-3 win over Barnegat, its third iin four games this season.

Following a tough loss at Colts Neck to end the previous week, Dan Rosa's Green Dragons lacrosse team posted a 9-6 win over Marlboro on Monday, then lost on Thursday night at Jackson Memorial, 14-1, with Patrick Barrow scoring the lone goal for Brick.

The Dragons girls  lacrosse team struggled this week, losing 15-4 vs. Howell at home on Monday, coupled with a 12-11 loss in a thriller on the road against Barnegat on Wednesday. The team is 1-4.

Hello, Spring
