Mustangs Boys Lacrosse Team Prepares for Opener

Despite graduating a number of seniors, Brick Memorial is expecting a successful season.

For the Brick Memorial High School boys lacrosse team, its teamwork off the field is something that also could translate into wins in 2011.

"The overall team camaraderie is great," Brick Memorial head coach Brent Middlemiss said. "The guys really get along with each other well."

Despite graduating a number of seniors from the 2010 team, Middlemiss feels there shouldn't be a drop-off in the play of his team.

"We graduated some good players," he said. "But I think we should definitely hang around the top of the division."

The Mustangs will look to consistent play from Alex Zytgo and Travis Barry along with solid play from Drew Lamella and Ryan Cavallo – all key contributors to the team from last season.

In terms of divisional play, there's no question as to which matchup the Mustangs will circle on their schedule.

"Jackson Memorial is definitely the team to beat. They're returning a lot of good players this year," Middlemiss said.

If Brick Memorial can keep it simple, things will go well, the coach said.

"No injuries," he said when asked to the keys to the season. "And be able to throw and catch."Brick Memorial kicks off their season at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 1 against Manasquan at the Sea Girt Armory.
