Brick Township officials recognized a local girls' soccer team that won a national champion at the township council meeting Tuesday night.
The Twin County Real Magic U15 Girls Soccer Team was ranked second place in New Jersey and ninth place in the nation. The team recently won the national league championship during a match held in Illinois, defeating a Spokane, Wash. team in a 2-1 victory.
"When you make it to the nationals, that is something such a small percentage of our kids make it to," said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis.
All of the members of the team were handed certificates by township officials, and a resolution honoring the team members by name was passed by the council during the meeting.
I was wrong per Lisa below... 1/3 of the team is NOT from Brick. But it is quite an accomplishment.
I knew a kid who played soccer and he didn't have any legs. He was a half back and all he could do was head the ball and block shots. If they were right at him that is. Now that kid deserved an award.
It's a Brick-based team that was honored by the Brick council. Let's just be happy for the members of the team who accomplished something good. The nitpicking is just silly.
Congratulations girls!
