Brick Soccer Team Wins National Championship

Team honored by township council

Brick Township officials recognized a local girls' soccer team that won a national champion at the township council meeting Tuesday night.

The Twin County Real Magic U15 Girls Soccer Team was ranked second place in New Jersey and ninth place in the nation. The team recently won the national league championship during a match held in Illinois, defeating a Spokane, Wash. team in a 2-1 victory.

"When you make it to the nationals, that is something such a small percentage of our kids make it to," said Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis.

All of the members of the team were handed certificates by township officials, and a resolution honoring the team members by name was passed by the council during the meeting.

Way to go! And thank you for putting Brick in a positive spotlight for once. Congrats again, you make us proud.
JD October 17, 2012 at 02:58 PM
Interesting but I believe 1/2 the girls on the team don't even live in Brick!!!
Cosmo October 17, 2012 at 03:30 PM
JD, this is not a Brick Team. It is a Twin County Soccer Team. Twin County Soccer is based in Brick, NJ at the drum point fields.

Just for the record 11 of the girls are from brick.
Lisa October 17, 2012 at 06:24 PM
Sorry forgot 1 so make it 12 girls from brick!
JD October 17, 2012 at 06:46 PM
Roster of 18.... so 1/3 of the team is not from Brick...
JD October 17, 2012 at 06:48 PM
Semantics Cosmo... I was wrong per Lisa below... 1/3 of the team is NOT from Brick. But it is quite an accomplishment.
Kel Kel October 17, 2012 at 07:43 PM
I am still scratching my head as to why "JD" gives a hoot that not all of the girls are from Brick? The team is proud to say they play for Twin County Soccer Association which IS in Brick and quite frankly shocked someone would post something so irrelevent when WE are speaking of a teams' TREMENDOUS ACCOMPLISHMENT!
Lisa October 17, 2012 at 07:49 PM
Roster of 18......so 2/3 of the team is from brick and thank you kel kel it is a tremendous accomplishment
Typical Obama Voter October 17, 2012 at 09:17 PM
Thats pretty good for them but it looks like they all have legs. I knew a kid who played soccer and he didn't have any legs. He was a half back and all he could do was head the ball and block shots. If they were right at him that is. Now that kid deserved an award.
JD October 17, 2012 at 10:31 PM
The headline makes one believe all the players are from Brick...
Kel Kel October 18, 2012 at 03:32 AM
@JD did the team write the article or the Patch? and here's a... for u :)
Daniel Nee (Editor) October 18, 2012 at 03:49 AM
Come on JD, give us a break. It's a Brick-based team that was honored by the Brick council. Let's just be happy for the members of the team who accomplished something good. The nitpicking is just silly.
Carol October 18, 2012 at 01:22 PM
Thanks to all the Brick residents who answered for our team as it is obvious there is jealousy every where you turn. Thanks for keeping it Real & Positive! These Girls Deserve it!
Cosmo October 19, 2012 at 03:18 PM
I wish I knew.
BrickGuy October 20, 2012 at 12:45 AM
These girls deserve every accolade bestowed on them. They dedicate their lives to excellence and practice their butts off to prepare for this level of competition. I know because my daughter was on the team at one point and I know a lot of the kids. To inject any type of negativity towards this accomplishment is blatantly pathetic. Congratulations girls!
