New Plan for Sale of Laurelton School

Lot will be subdivided, officials say

The former Laurelton School building on Route 88, near Princeton Avenue, is still for sale, and school officials are hoping to make the lot on which it stands more attractive to potential buyers.

Right now, the lot contains two buildings: the former school building and a district supply warehouse. The school, which at certain points was an elementary school and the home to an alternative high school program, was shut down after the 2007-08 school year.

School board member Larry Reid told Patch that he recently asked Business Administrator James Edwards to follow up with two companies that had expressed previous interest in purchasing the site, Wawa and Meridian Health Systems. But when contacted, Reid said, neither of the companies remained interested in purchasing the plot of land.

"Price was not an issue," Reid said.

Now, the district intends to subdivide the property into two separate lots in hopes of making the land more attractive to businesses.

Reid said there are currently no buyers interested in purchasing the site.
