Midstreams Student Wins Poster Contest

Fifth grader wins multi-county contest

One student has something big to smile about.

Jazmyn Campbell, a fifth grader at the school, won the grand prize in a multi-county poster contest to spread word about the importance of good dental health.

Campbell designed the grand prize-winning poster in the annual Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Association poster contest. More than 420 students from the two counties entered, according to school officials.

"It was a tough decision this time, too," said Dr. Elisa Velazquez, an orthodontist from Toms River who gave Jazmyn her award on Sunday at the annual Dental Health Fair at the Ocean County Mall.

This year's contest theme was, "Rock Your Smile." That specific phrase had to be included on the poster, along with sound dental health tips.

Midstreams school nurse Diane Lynch and art teacher Lisa Costello run the contest each year, according to school officials.

For her efforts, Jazmyn received a trophy and an Ocean County Mall gift certificate.
