Forum on New Brick Schools Super Set for Wednesday

Suggestions will be taken from members of the community

The Board of Education has scheduled a public forum for Wednesday during which township residents will have a chance to speak out on what they are looking for in the next leader of the township's school district.

The Board of Education is on schedule to select a new schools chief in June.

The meeting will help give the Board of Education and West Hudson Associates – a private search firm assisting the board in finding a new superintendent – an idea of what types of qualities the community would like to see in a new chief schools administrator.

"An important component of the superintendent search is gathering an understanding from the school staff and community on what they are looking for in the next superintendent of schools," district spokeswoman Dina Silvestri said in a media release on the meeting.

West Hudson will be hosting a series of forums on April 4, with the community forum set for 7 p.m. at the auditorium. Staff members, for example, will have their own meeting.

Last June, the board decided against renewing the contract of current Superintendent Walter Hrycenko. Hrycenko will revert back to his tenured position of assistant superintendent after the current school year ends.

Using the information gleaned from the open forum, as well as from surveys posted on the district's website, the list of candidates will be narrowed down, officials have said.

The board is set to make its choice in June, with the new superintendent beginning work in town in August after giving his or her traditional 60 days notice, a common amount of notice time in educational administration.
