Brick Schools Return Today As District Reaches Out to Displaced Students

Students now out-of-district may still attend school in Brick

Brick Township students will return to school Monday after two weeks off thanks to Hurricane Sandy.

All schools will start their day at the normal time, officials said.

But some students will be far away from their usual bus stops. Many students in the township's Shore Acres, Baywood, Cherry Quay and – most notably – the barrier island neighborhoods have been displaced from their homes and, as a consequence, their schools.

But school district officials have pledged to rectify the situation and, to the extent they can, keep Brick Township students in Brick Township schools while they may be staying in other local communities temporarily.

Superintendent Dr. Walter Uszenski made the pledge last week, and has followed up by asking those whose families have been displaced by the storm to contact his office at 732-785-3000, ext. 1019.

The Board of Education is prepared to set up and provide transportation for those students who have been displaced and are residing locally in neighboring towns, the district has announced.

Uszenski is also advising any students or parents that are residing or seeking shelter in another district to contact that district's superintendent. A list of superintendents can be found on a state website.

Visitation Church is tremendous during this emergency. It was a few months ago that the anti religous people were bad mouthing this fine church because of allegations by 1 person. Ask the thousands of victims that this church has helped in the last couple of weeks what they think of the Church of the Visitation.

I heard that the group working at the Church giving out supplies was charging people $5 a bag. Do you know who that was?
A Polymath November 12, 2012 at 07:38 pm
That was shown on NJ12 news. They instituted a small fee ( I think it was $3 for a small bag of clothing and $5 for a large one) as they felt that some people who were not genuinely in need were taking the donated clothing.
I believe the food was free for everyone.

Anyone know why no one was told the schools are still being run on generators. I heard VMMS was awful today with kids fainting and power giving out.

Jim..no generators at vmms...why were kids fainting?..too hot? Too cold? Too many rumors?
Don't believe everything you hear.

It's been a swift two weeks for the rumor mill, indeed.

I agree with quiet time. Def consideration of my neighbors if they have a sleeping baby or back yardRead More party. We surely try to respect that.

Funny Lelenore, I don't see that there are very many rules and regs. If it were elected it would notRead More be an infringement. I respect your opinion, but still feel six day time hours out of an entire week is not a lot to ask. If nothing else, would love to see a ban on gas leaf blowers. There are towns that have that in place. The mowers are not really IMHO that intrusive, but the leaf blowers and concrete cutters are another matter. Trouble is, people herebouts think they are in Montana and often are as you say, on 100 by 100 lots. What is the point of having all of this grass and trees if one never has the serenity about them to enjoy it? I think the ill effects of suburban noise pollution on health - blood pressure, aggression, release of the chemical cortisol etc. are well documented. Over a twenty five year period in time in Brick I find that this has become a real quality of life issue. At one point in my life I resided in mid town Manhattan and ya know what - being high up IT WAS QUIETER! Jackson? I don't think so. Doesn't Brielle have such an elective ordinance?

It was suppose to move next to the next liquor store behind Harbor Freight on Hooper. But,they neverRead More did.And when we pass it,it looks like they aren't even working on that side of the building. We miss that place for their deli dept.

They are waiting for the new store to get dirty and smell. It needs to be run down a little bit forRead More it to function properly.
can't say who June 19, 2013 at 05:44 pm
Right next to the liquor store. The reason it is taking so long is the politics of Acropolis andRead More Pat Botazzi. They kept the liquor store from opening for TWO years by controlling the planning board and caused the store owner HUNDREDS OF THOUSANS OF DOLLARES WITH COURT FIGHTS. Acropolis LOST THE COURT FIGHTS BUT CONTINUES TO BEAT UP ON THE LIQUOR STORE'S NEW TENNANT AS RETROBUTION Now Acropolis can play the code enforcement game and still get his happiness as a bigoted soon to be ex mayor and not a nice man. How about denying this. It is going to be a great store with the same owners and great food IF Acropolis doesn't have them go bankrupt due to him before they even open.
