Brick School District to Start Kindergarten Registration, Pre-K Lottery

District will offer evening registration to accommodate parents' schedules

The Brick school district is set to begin its kindergarten registration process for the 2011-12 school year, according to Dina Silvestri, a district spokeswoman. Additionally, the district will accept applications for parents to enroll their children in paid preschool classes. Acceptance in preschool will be awarded in a lottery.

Kindergarten registration will take place at the Board of Education building, located at 101 Hendrickson Avenue.

Students who will attend Herbertsville, Lanes Mill, Veterans Memorial, and Midstreams elementary schools are asked to register their children starting Monday, Feb. 28 through Friday, March 11 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Evening registration is available for these schools on Tuesday, March 8 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Students who will attend Drum Point, Emma Havens, and Osbornville elementary schools are invited to register starting Monday, March 14 through Friday, March 25 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Evening registration is available for these schools on Tuesday, March 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.

"Kindergarten registration will occur for two full weeks with two evening dates to accommodate those who are not able to register during daytime hours," said Silvestri. "It is required to have paperwork filled out prior to attending registration."

The district will also accept applications from parents through April 29 to enroll their children in next school year's preschool program. The district provides a general education preschool program for three- and four-year-old children at the Educational Enrichment Center on Hendrickson Road. The price of the program is $180 per month. Parents, including those who have children in the program already, must apply or re-apply for the lottery by the April 29 deadline, according to school officials. If selected in the lottery, parents must leave a $360 deposit at the time of their child's registration. Children must turn three by Oct. 1, 2011 to qualify.

Application forms and more details on program requirements for both preschool and kindergarten registration are available on the district's Web site, Silvestri said.
