Warren Wolf Retires from OCC Board

Assemblyman: 'I don't know anyone who gave more to Ocean County'

“I don’t know anyone who gave more to Ocean  County,’’ Assemblyman David W. Wolfe of Brick Township told Warren Wolf as he announced his retirement Monday from the Ocean County College Board of Trustees.

He said Wolf was the Brick mayor, its famous high school football coach, deputy superintendent of schools, a councilman, freeholder and assemblyman.

“People used to think I was his son. That’s a very good thing when you run for public office,’’ the lawmaker said. “Now they think I’m his brother.’’

Wolf has been a trustee at the community college since 1994. Wolfe is the senior assistant to the president at OCC.

The other trustees paid tribute to Wolf, saying his service included his "time, energy and expertise," that “had a significant impact on ensuring the continued growth and excellence of Ocean County College in its goal to be recognized as one of the finest community colleges in the nation.’’

They named Wolf a "trustee emeritus."

"It has been a privilege to be here for 17 years," Wolf said, adding; "I think I’ve served my time. These have been glorious years."

He praised the college administrators and "outstanding professors" he met over the years, saying they shared a common goal of "doing the best we can for the students, faculty and community."

OCC President Dr. Jon H. Larson said Wolf brought "unique, authentic wisdom" to the board and helped serve as its ethical compass.

"You’ve been a valuable asset," agreed trustee Stephan Leone of Toms River.

Jerry Dasti, a trustee from Lacey, said he met Wolf 45 years ago when he was playing basketball at Asbury Park and got into a fight during the game. Wolf was the referee who separated the combatants.

Executive Vice President for Instruction Richard Strada said Wolf taught him how to play ice hockey, 55 years ago in West New York, N.J.

Wolf introduced the sport in Brick and Strada became the only ice hockey coach OCC ever had, in addition to coaching the high school team at High School East.

"He was my first coach," Strada recalled.

Wolf, who recently for a second season at Lakewood High School, said he is leaving the OCC post to reduce his public responsibilities and "move on to greener pastures."
