The Brick Township Council will vote at its Feb. 19 meeting to approve, on second reading, an ordinance vacating an undeveloped, unpaved portion of a street.
Though it appears as if it is a street on tax maps, the westernmost portion of Wabash Avenue is actually a grassy area in between two residential homes. The ordinance would grant the technical street to two homeowners on the block and make it part of the township tax rolls.
"It's a small sliver of township property which could have been a street at one time," said Business Administrator Scott Pezarras. "It will now generate tax revenue."
Councilwoman Susan Lydecker said at least one of the homeowners obtaining the strip of land will use it for a home addition.
Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis suggested at the Feb. 5 council meeting that the ordinance should include language preventing the land from being able to be subdivided in the future to create another home, a suggestion the council agreed was appropriate.
The street vacation ordinance will be up for a public hearing and final approval Feb. 19.
