Township Begins Planning of 'Bricktoberfest' Event

Large event will feature gourmet food trucks, mayor says

Township officials have started planning the first "Bricktoberfest" event which will be held this fall at Windward Beach Park.

Last week, the township council sought bids from food truck companies to be vendors at the event in hopes that it will turn into a large-scale food truck competition.

"Some other places around the area have done them," said Mayor John Ducey. "They were done around the country and now they’re getting closer to home."

In recent weeks, the mayor said, food truck events were held at Monmouth Park and the Laurita Winery in New Egypt.

"It’s going to be a food truck war; truck after truck, all kinds of different types of food," said Ducey.

The event will follow a revamping of the township's Summerfest this season, where food service previously organized as fundraisers for township organizations was put out to bid in order to generate revenue. Additionally, Ducey successfully sought permission from the township council to add a beer and wine garden to Summerfest.
