Taxi Company's Hearing Set for Tonight

New Mantoloking Taxi will appear before Board of Adjustment

Should a local taxi company that illegally paved over a residential lot and used it for extra parking be granted a variance to continue to park its vehicles there?

That's the question Brick's Board of Adjustment is tasked with answering Wednesday night, as New Mantoloking Taxi is scheduled to continue its quest for permission to use a residential lot it owns to park its vehicles and its employees' vehicles.

New Mantoloking owns two lots on its property, one zoned for commercial purposes and one for residential purposes. However, a conflict arose when the owner of the taxi company paved over the residential-zoned lot in order to use it for the purposes of his business, which left neighbors none too pleased.

The township council granted New Mantoloking a last month, but on the condition that they do not use the residential lot for parking.

The Board of Adjustment, under township ordinance, had the option of requiring New Mantoloking's owner of ripping up the parking lot and returning the lot to its old state before the variance case would be heard, but the board made no such ruling.

Still, the company is willing to accept the consequences if its application is denied, its attorney said.

“My client is prepared to take out the asphalt and restore the property, if the Board of Adjustment does not approve the variance,” said attorney John Jackson.

The hearing will take place Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the township .

"All are welcomed and encouraged to attend the hearing, ask questions, and make comments." "Please come and support maintaining the quality of life both in the historic Cedarwood Park area and in Brick Township in general." "What happens in one neighborhood may happen in any neighborhood."

They have outgrown the property and need to find a more suitable location. If everyone else in Brick needs to abide by the law, so should the taxi cab company. They should be forced to rip up the asphalt and restore the property. Anyone else that does something illegally is forced to tear down whatever it is they built without permits, so should he. He is not above the law. He should also pay fines and penalties for what he's done. He not only violated zoning laws but he's other laws as well. It is not fair to the residents in that area. I encourage everyone to come out to support the residents. The increased traffic, safety issues, noise, traffic, etc affect residents quality of life as well as property values. The owner's currenr solution is making workers park on the streets in that area, which was done out of spite, instead of having the drivers park thier personal cars in the spots that were used for the taxi cabs they are using. So, during the day, the main lot is empty (because the taxi cabs are in use) meanwhile the streets are so narrow, the trash cannot be picked up because of all the cars parked on the street, mail isnt being delivered and god forbid someone needs and ambulence or there is a fire. I encourage everyone to come out to support the residents. This could happen in your neighborhood!!

Tell them to move, dispatcher name joe told the drivers to park out on the streets.

I am sure they figure if their employees park on the street, the residents wont like it and their solution will be, that they can park in their illegal parking lot. It's a ploy to try to get his way. I just hope the town is smart enough to see through those tactics. This company is unethical. They should not only have to restore the lot they illegally paved over but all the violations they have committed and their unpaid/late court fees and waste of taxpayer money should be factored in and their license should be suspended until they get their act together and comply with the law.

If they cant use the lot I hope they build the ugliest house in the world on that lot and paint it purple. You people really need a reality check!

Bricks commercial zoning board sucks. I don't know who they have working there but they are a bunch of idiots. It's all about money, I'm sure they're getting hooked up if you know what I mean. They could give a rats a&& about the residents of brick. I have similar issues where I live and nothing has ever been done about it. I have called about a commercial lot that has destroyed my personal property and the zoning board does nothing! A waste of time and aggregation on my part. It's horrible how both the residents a and commercial idiots do as they please b/c they pay taxes-what's wrong with people?

If you dont think they will spot zone pass this, dont be surprised when they do. My relative near a mechanics business on rt 88 was surprised and infuriated when Scarpellis puppet board of adjustment approved a spot zone for less than half of a residential property so the rt 88 business could use it as a parking lot. You have never seen anything like it. Go see for yourself. It is on West Princeton Ave , between Hoffman St and Edge St. behind the La Strada restaurant and the Rt 88 deli. Look on google maps or see for yourself from behing Rt 88 deli. Residential lot turned into commercial parking lot in middle of residential neighbor. My relative was furious.

It is the house and lot right in the middle of block. Scarpellis zoning board spot zoned a residential lot for a Rt 88 business. This is just tip of ice berg of what Scarpellis puppet boards approved for reasons unknown....LOL...LOL http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1650-W-Princeton-Ave-Brick-NJ-08724/39556579_zpid/

The residents are just as bad if not worse. I called and spoke with the zoning idiots, called and spoke with the commercial business idiot and not one neighborly thing was done about it. It's a shame. I live here, they work there for 8 hours and go home. I was so angry when this first started I had three brick police offers in my home. They caused damage to my personal property, they have no parking signs up where they f'^*>^€ park but the brick police told me the "no parking signs are for the fire dept" yeah am I missing something b/c they still park there? I swear I can't stand stupid people! Ugrr!

You have had already 4 months to waste our time and money with this..

Your comment is ridiculous, the drivers only park on the street because that is what the town said to do until this issue is cleared up. I cant really believe that you want that lot restored to what is was before...a dirt lot with the neighborhood garbage strewn about. How about you stop trying to bad mouth a company that you know nothing about.
