Senate, Assembly Candidates Win Easy Re-Election Victory in Ocean County

Connors, Holzapfel re-elected to Senate; Gove, Rumpf, Wolfe and McGuckin retain Assembly seats

Ocean County's representatives in the state legislature will return for another term.

The Republican incumbents in the ninth district, which covers southern Ocean County, and the 10th district, which covers the northern portion of the county, easily trounced their opponents at the polls Tuesday.

Sen. Chris Connors (R-9) bested his Democratic rival, Anthony Mazella, 70.8 percent to 29.2 percent. Connors' running mates, incumbent Republican Assembly members DiAne Gove and Brian E. Rumpf, won a combined 55.9 percent of the vote.

The results were similar in the 10th district, where Sen. James Holzapfel (R-10) garnered 69.7 percent of the vote compared to 30.3 percent for Democrat John Bendel. Holzapfel's running mates, incumbent GOP Assemblymen Dave Wolfe and Gregory P. McGuckin, received a combined 68.4 percent of the vote, besting Democrats Amber Gesslein and Susan Kane.
