"We ran a positive campaign, like we said we would," said Sangiovanni. "I spoke with Dan, and he was a gentleman as always."

Sangiovanni said he was felling "confident" about his chances in the general election.

"I'm very gracious for all the support I received," said Toth. "It was nice getting this much interest up about a primary election. We had a record turnout."

Toth also threw his endorsement behind Sangiovanni for November's election.

"I support Joe, he's our party's candidate for mayor," said Toth. "I'm behind him 100 percent, and if it was reversed, I know he'd be behind me."

Toth's term on the township council will expire in November, leaving him without an elected position in town. But that doesn't mean his public service is over, he explained.

"Being mayor of Brick Township is still a goal of mine, and one I will pursue," he said.

Ducey thanked all of his supporters Tuesday night, saying he was happy with the results.

He said he was looking forward to running an "issues-based" campaign and "talking to the town about the issues at stake."

"I think we're going to come out on the right side of the issues," he said, saying he would be focusing on property taxes, "and how much property taxes have been raised in recent years."

Lamb was not immediately available for comment.
