New Council Member May be Appointed Tonight

No word on who council will choose

There's no word on who will become Brick's newest township council member, but there's a good chance he'll be appointed tonight.

On the agenda for tonight's township council meeting is the appointment and swearing in of the new member, who will replace former Councilman Anthony Matthews, who last month. Since Matthews was a Republican, the township GOP organization was tasked with submitting three names – in this case, Dr. Joseph Buttacavoli, Edward McBride and John Catalano – to the council for consideration. The council must choose one of those three individuals to take the seat for the remainder of the year.

Catalano is already running for a seat on the council, along with incumbent GOP council members Brian DeLuca, Ruthanne Scaturro and Michael Thulen. Scaturro had initially , but to replace Matthews on the ballot.

The agenda for tonight's council meeting also includes:

  • Amending a shared services agreement between the township at BTMUA for a water main replacement.
  • Several items related to the start of the trap, neuter, release program, which has to do with managing the feral cat population in town.
  • Authorizing the liquor license of The Mansion, located in Brick Plaza, to serve drinks on its outdoor patio.
  • Officially extending the grace period for tax bills, which were delayed in being sent out.
