Marlboro Receives $1.6 Million in Sandy Relief Funds

FEMA will reimburse Marlboro for debris cleanup and emergency management during and after Hurricane Sandy.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg announced today that Marlboro Township will be reimbursed through FEMA money to the tune of more than $1.6 million.

Marlboro estimated its cleanup costs at more than $1 million shortly after the storm. Today, estimated costs reach $2.2 million.

The costs also come from township employee overtime payments, including in the police department and public works department.

Lautenberg also announced funding for Belmar and the NJ Office of Emergency Management. Wednesday's funding appropriations totaled $9.2 million.

“These federal grants are an important start,  and now more than $60 billion in emergency federal recovery aid has been signed into law, New Jersey and the region will be able to move more quickly in rebuilding  and preparing for the next storm," Lautenberg said in a news release.

The federal government has approve $60.2 billion in Sandy relief funds.

"The removal of debris from our communities is one of the ways our residents psychologically recover and return to a sense of normalcy in their everyday lives after the storm," said Governor Chris Christie in a news release.

Mr/Mrs/...-Milton, First i believe that if you're going to offer a comment in a public forum use your real name. Don't be afraid you will not be shunned or persecuted even in Marlboro. This is America and we are free to speak our minds and express our opinion and challenge our leaders. This is how this country was built! Second, I object that you classify me as someones flunky when you don't even know me. Yes I am a Republican and I do know Deans and proud of it. Irrespective of my affiliation i was the first one to voice my disappointment and disgust to Victoria when the approval of the school election was moved to the general election and we lost our right to vote on the budget as long as it was under 2%. I don't care if you are a Dem or Rep what's wrong is wrong period! Third it is you who are misinformed. My zone 7 had the first pick up the Monday after the storm before any real debris could be collected, and no follow up collection was made as you stated. My point was that the township could have waited another couple of days before hitting individual neighborhoods for clean up and should have focused on main streets so that can be safe for passage. Beginning clean up a couple days before another storm that caused just as much if not more damage was plain and simple short sighted and perfect example of management 101 failure when you are employing limited resources. (cont'd) That is not a political fabrication it is simply the truth, which is never convenient or comfortable to deal with. That is why it is the truth. If you would get your head out of the administrations derriere for long enough you could potentially make an intelligent rebuttal. With regard to Mr. and Mrs. Dean like any community active individuals holding political posts they have some sort of personal agenda I am sure. However that goes the same for Mr. Hornik and anyone else occupying or seeking public office. Like I said before I do know the Deans and we may not always agree on all of the issues but I respect them for their activism and their sacrifices in trying to make this a better town. I extend the same respect to Mr. Hornik and the council even though I don't agree with their policies or actions.

I will be putting together a photo gallery of debris still in Marlboro streets. If you have a photo of debris on your street, please email me at kaitlyn.anness@patch.com with what street and zone you are in. Thanks to the residents who already submitted photos!

They picked up our leaves about 3 weeks ago and the debris over a month ago, but I am off of a main road.....maybe that has something to do with it??
