Expensive Brick Election: GOP Has Spent Nearly $200,000

Candidates from both parties must follow strict reporting dates for their political contributions.

Any resident who lives in the township and who has been getting flyers in the mail almost daily will probably not be surprised to read this, but the Republicans in Brick are outspending their Democratic challengers in the race for Council.

The Republicans, incumbents Joseph Sangiovanni, Domenick Brando, and Victoria Chadwick and John Ciocco filed jointly as "Friends of SBCC" with the state's Election Law Enforcement Commission and reported raising $192,297.52, and reported spending $171,337.17 in a report marked received Oct. 25.

The Democrats, incumbent John Ducey,  Heather deJong, Marianna Pontoriero, and Paul Mummolo, also jointly filed as the "Ducey Team for Brick," and in a report marked received Oct. 24, reported raising $57,091 and spending $52,114.97

Such lopsided contribution and spending totals are not unusual in GOP-heavy Ocean County.

Candidates from both parties must follow strict reporting dates for their political contributions, and are also obligated to file notices with 48 hours of receiving any donation of at least $1,000 or more in the two weeks leading up to Election Day.
