County Approves Road Project for Old Squan Road in Brick

Construction to begin this spring, officials say

Ocean County officials announced this week that Old Squan Road in Brick would be repaved.

The county will seek bids for the project in the coming weeks and schedule work to begin as soon as the winter storm threat subsides, officials said.

"This contract is part of our ongoing road maintenance program," said Freeholder Jack Kelly, liaison to the Ocean County Engineering Department

Old Squan runs from Route 70 east, past St. Dominic Church and school, to Route 88 just north of Van Zile Road.

Work will include milling two inches of existing asphalt and repaving the roads with two inches of new asphalt, county officials said. The roadway and crosswalks will also be restriped.

"The improvements will also meet all ADA requirements and storm drains will be upgraded to the latest state Department of Environmental Protection standards," said Kelly.

Work will begin this spring and should be completed on Old Squan, as well as four other county roads by the summer.

The same repaving project will also be performed on:

  • Brookville Road, Barnegat Township
  • James Street, Lakewood Township
  • Motor Road, Pine Beach Borough
  • Summit Avenue, Island Heights Borough
