Completion of County Bay, Fishing Park in Brick Expected This Month

Park will be located between Mantoloking Bridge and Traders Cove

Wedged between the Mantoloking Bridge and the Traders Cove Marina site will soon be a new county park.

Ocean County Freeholder Deputy Director John C. Bartlett said this week that construction on the park will be completed later this month.

"The new park nicely complements the area of Traders Cove and provides residents with a great place to enjoy the bay and all it has to offer," Bartlett said in a prepared statement on the project.

The park will be aimed at those looking to fish and crab, as well as anyone who wants to catch a glimpse at the activity – or lack thereof – on Barnegat Bay. The park will include lighted paths, a boardwalk, benches, a multiuse pier, two gazebos, two bait cutting and fish cleaning stations, and interpretive exhibits on Mantoloking Road at the base of the northwest side of the Mantoloking Bridge.

Since the new Mantoloking Bridge opened in 2006, a portion of the old bridge remained as an improvised fishing pier. But county officials, seeing the popularity of the location for anglers and crabbers, eventually began work on a park on a spit of land they owned adjacent to the bridge. The total cost of construction was $1,422,994, Bartlett said.

Eventually, the park will link to the larger Traders Cove site, on which Brick Township is creating an even larger park, officials said.

The county portion of the project will include parking for 55 vehicles and restroom facilities, as well as a 20-by-12 sun shelter on the fishing pier.

I'll bet it becomes a nice place at night to have a few cold ones too. How long will it take for it to become a depository for beer cans, butts and used raincoats.

I drive by the park every few days and it really is coming along nicely. Can't wait to go crabbing & fishing again!

Love being by the waters edge just to sit and it will allow us to enjoy living down the shore without the crowds of the beach and the boardwalk.

I am with clam, I hope they dont trash it like they did windward.

This solves the public restroom mystery. Also the park will keep the people happy who want access to the waterfront. BTW a fence is now up around the future shops at Brownstone on Mantaloking Road. It appears that construction will begin soon? That is another intersection that is and will be in serious need of a traffic light. I risk my life there all the time.

The cost of the county park is actually 50,000 more per acre than the town park according to Pezarras. No can't use capital money to avoid layoffs so one has bother to do with the other. The administrator is a former mayor because he lost or he would still be there.

No the restrooms are designed in size for use by the people using the smaller county portion of the park. It is not designed with the intent to support the entire site, and a working marina. It would be overwhelmed.

People could just go on their boat... or porta poties can be used. There should be no problem.

DECREASE TAXES BY 25% FOR STARTERS! Acropolis, We are coming for you in the next election. That I can assuure you. Time to get a real job. And for all the neophyte council have bankrupt commies you best pay attention. The taxpayer is PISSED! We are gunning for you too.

The EPA WILL NOT allow the marina to open without proper restrooms! When you have ignorant people and one condescending BRAT running BTC costly mistakes are inevitable!

With the size of the new fishing area the county will definitely need regular (several times a day) visits from a game warden to keep tabs on illegal fishing as well as single groups taking over the crabbing peer, also the DP to keep tabs on the beer drinking trash mouth fools this is a family place!

Hey Me and Clamdigger You two are the most negative people I've never had the pleasure to meet. I've been fishing and crabbing that park for years and there's never been one problem at that site and it is always clean. Why don't you both get away from the keyboar and breath some fresh air it will do wonders for you both. God bless!

Very beautiful area and so wonderful we have yet another area of Brick to enjoy with family and friends. Its not what Brick can do for us, its what we can do to help maintain our parks and beaches and shopping centers and keeping our town clean and safe. Its team work......... hopefully the concerns can be turned into solutions as well, for each concern perhaps a solution can be posted. Keep Positive its truly a beautiful area and the view is awesome. A place to meet new friends.

Put up a sign that says no alcoholic beverages and no smoking in this area like they have a Brick Beach. It seems to work. I hope they don't allow smoking at the park.
