Brick To Increase Bike Path Project Cost to $182K

Brick Township will pay $14,000 more for work to the township’s Airport Tract bike path to the Seawood Harbor neighborhood,  though the project is funded by a $190,000 state Department of Transportation "Bikeways" Grant.

The original contract, for $168,623, was awarded to High Safety System Inc. of Hammonton in February. Brick received the Bikeways grant in 2011.

The work to the bike path grew to include more enhancements to original plans, to expand the township’s Airport Tract bike path to the Seawood Harbor neighborhood, as well as provide additional path openings along the trail. Some of the funding will go toward maintenance of the trail as well. The change order on this week's Brick Council meeting for the increase refers to the changes as "additions to enhanced supplemental items.

The  project means the bike path is more than a half-mile long and six feet wide. The contract also calls for wetlands restoration, landscaping, test pits, fencing, signage, traffic and erosion control associated with the trail extension.

The bike path runs along Saint Lawrence Boulevard, Holly Avenue, Nokomis Avenue and Knoll Crest Avenue.
