Brick Selected to Receive Multi-Bed Amublance
Township will get state Homeland Security money to pay for vehicle
Brick Township will receive $340,000 in state funds to pay for the purchase of a multi-bed, triage ambulance, it was announced.
The ambulance is designed to act as a mobile triage unit that can go out to large accidents or disaster scenes and help medical personnel treat patients before they are taken to hospitals. The vehicle, to be based in Brick, will be paid for in full by state Homeland Security grant funding.
"They’re strategically placing several of these vehicles throughout the state," said Business Administrator Scott Pezarras, who added that state officials approached the township to ask if Brick would be interested in hosting one of the vehicles.

Pezarras said the ambulance will serve the entire local area, though Brick will have permanent access to it. Other towns or agencies that use the ambulance will pay for its operation outside of Brick, Pezarras said.
"We’ll have access to that vehicle 365 days per year, 24 hours a day, here in Brick Township," Pezarras said.

The ambulance was one of four grants the township council approved at its May 17 meeting. The township received about $130,000 in funding to defray the cost of solid waste pickup through a state Clean Communities grant; Brick ascertained $14,780 in funding through an Alcohol Education Rehabilitation Grant; and Brick officials took in $1,030 through an Ocean County Tourism Advisory Grant.
