Brick Restructuring Ordinance Up For Vote

Township council meeting set for Monday night

The Brick Township council meeting scheduled for Tuesday night has been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 10.

Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said the meeting has been rescheduled so township officials and the public can attend a planned ceremony and candlelight vigil Tuesday night commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

According to a meeting agenda distributed by the township, the meeting will include votes on various items for the Traders Cove Marina project, bulkhead repairs, automated garbage cans as well as a number of other regular consent agenda items.

The council is also set to introduce multiple ordinances which will effectively restructure several departments within township government, including the elimination of dedicated departments for Recreation as well as Community Development and Land Use. The duties of those departments, according to a proposed ordinance, will shift to divisions within existing departments.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the township .

I hope that consolidating depts. means smaller government
BW September 10, 2012 at 12:13 pm
Restructuring I guess someone's family member needs a job.
I thought the rec dept was already merged into the Parks dept that was taken out of PW and created so Dave could have a public job. Land use, does this mean Juan will be leaving, or at the very least be taking a pay cut?
BW September 10, 2012 at 12:21 pm
This is too funny. I just read through the ordinance. They plan to create 3 new positions for every one that is being eliminated. What a freaking joke.
Cant wait to see what unqualified family members and friends get hired.
Not So Dumb September 10, 2012 at 02:37 pm
Pick Me, I don't have any family that live in Brick and all my friends live elsewhere. Does that make me qualified to hold a government position? Pick Me, Pick Me.
Brick September 10, 2012 at 02:52 pm
I'm hearing the Mayor hates it.. So it's a good plan
can't say who September 10, 2012 at 04:14 pm
We now have another fully qualified person to hire. The mayor of Trenton can work for us while the FBI continues its investigation after his arrest this morning. To be eligible for a Brick job he will have to move in with Stevie.
Brick September 10, 2012 at 04:16 pm
It puts the parks dept back at DPW where it belongs.. And dismantles land use and JB job. Lol
Mrgrumpass September 10, 2012 at 04:27 pm
This all looks to me like the New Bees need to dole out some political jobs to their friendlies and or families. I don’t see any savings this all seems like a shell game, where’s the pea under which shell? Their closing departments and laying off people and creating new positions in others departments and hiring new (friendlies and or families) people to fill these same positions, this all sounds like a NEW SCAM! I still want to know where is our tax cut they promised didn’t they?

Looks like the 2013 campaign starts tonight for the new majority.

What does Juan Bellu do for his $150K salary? Say for instance, what is he doing today?
JD September 10, 2012 at 05:15 pm
It's pretty pathetic you need an ordinance to do this...
Surprise you can't do it when budgets are approved... Acropolis created these positions without an ordinance!!! Guess you need an ordinance to "FORCE" Acropolis to eliminate positions. Ridiculous... Acropolis must go!

Who's "not so bright idea " was it to plan a basketball court at the Hollywood Pk play ground? If anyone had taken the time to first think about the "cultural impact" they would realize why several North jersey munips scrapped their basketball courts in and replaced them with Hockey, soccer, etc. and saw crime decline ! wow !! :)
Saw Mill + basketbal courts = disaster for Bricktucky :( It's the truth )

He's down at the Toms River MUA where he works with Steve our part time mayor. Denny I've seen you post this question like a hundred times and never any answer provided. Scott P are you out there??? Can you tell us what your assistant business administrator does for 150k a year??? I also want to know who approved the insurance contracts for our schools and the Brick Housing Authority from Federal Hill Risk Management and Francis X Gartland? Denny you know the BOE took away insurance for our student athlete's two years ago because it cost too much money, seems comical to me, who was/is getting the kickbacks from Frank G?? Big Mike is supposed to get sentenced 9/14 wonder if he will tell???

@forthekids.....The funniest part is when they took the records from townhall for birdsall, scotty p said that they had only done 1 project for the town in that time span. It is well known that Birdsall has been running engineering and landuse from an office in town hall since Acrapolis took over.

Democrats cannot cut spending or lower taxes, otherwise they would not be democrats.
BW September 10, 2012 at 08:43 pm
That must mean Stevie is a dem then.
Minimew726 September 10, 2012 at 08:47 pm
Yikes
Minimew726 September 10, 2012 at 08:56 pm
So based on what I read if this ordinance, the dept of community development and land use is going to be eliminated (lol) and the director title eliminated ( lmao) is Juan B going to give back the $50,000. Yearly raise he got to perform this 2nd job (Roflmao) and if they give him the title of Principal Planner dies he posses the degrees and licenses needed and if so did we as taxpayers of Brick pay for him to obtain said degrees and licenses just like we paid for the director of public works to get all the credentials he needed to become director?
Minimew726 September 10, 2012 at 09:05 pm
Furthermore. Why are there so many supervisors needed in public works. You have Director Campbell and Davie boy will be a Superintendent, not to mention Barry Houman the depts General supervisor and Charlie Duddy Frank Carlone, Glen Szblewski, Brian Cambell Robert Luckiewicz tom dieterle and possibly another "banner" employee becoming supervisor. It seems a bit over kill. Why so many "Chiefs" when the amount of "Indians" keeps getting reduced
Minimew726 September 10, 2012 at 09:07 pm
Oh and I forgot the most useless of all supervisors... Ken Mathis....sorry
Slippery Slope September 10, 2012 at 10:05 pm
@BW.....no, Stevie is just a friends and family guy that raises taxes and runs under the GOP line.
ONE AND DONE September 14, 2012 at 03:25 pm

I agree with quiet time. Def consideration of my neighbors if they have a sleeping baby or back yardRead More party. We surely try to respect that.
KC June 19, 2013 at 04:55 pm
Funny Lelenore, I don't see that there are very many rules and regs. If it were elected it would notRead More be an infringement. I respect your opinion, but still feel six day time hours out of an entire week is not a lot to ask. If nothing else, would love to see a ban on gas leaf blowers. There are towns that have that in place. The mowers are not really IMHO that intrusive, but the leaf blowers and concrete cutters are another matter. Trouble is, people herebouts think they are in Montana and often are as you say, on 100 by 100 lots. What is the point of having all of this grass and trees if one never has the serenity about them to enjoy it? I think the ill effects of suburban noise pollution on health - blood pressure, aggression, release of the chemical cortisol etc. are well documented. Over a twenty five year period in time in Brick I find that this has become a real quality of life issue. At one point in my life I resided in mid town Manhattan and ya know what - being high up IT WAS QUIETER! Jackson? I don't think so. Doesn't Brielle have such an elective ordinance?

It was suppose to move next to the next liquor store behind Harbor Freight on Hooper. But,they neverRead More did.And when we pass it,it looks like they aren't even working on that side of the building. We miss that place for their deli dept.

They are waiting for the new store to get dirty and smell. It needs to be run down a little bit forRead More it to function properly.
can't say who June 19, 2013 at 05:44 pm
Right next to the liquor store. The reason it is taking so long is the politics of Acropolis andRead More Pat Botazzi. They kept the liquor store from opening for TWO years by controlling the planning board and caused the store owner HUNDREDS OF THOUSANS OF DOLLARES WITH COURT FIGHTS. Acropolis LOST THE COURT FIGHTS BUT CONTINUES TO BEAT UP ON THE LIQUOR STORE'S NEW TENNANT AS RETROBUTION Now Acropolis can play the code enforcement game and still get his happiness as a bigoted soon to be ex mayor and not a nice man. How about denying this. It is going to be a great store with the same owners and great food IF Acropolis doesn't have them go bankrupt due to him before they even open.
