Brick Reservoir to be Closed for Inspections

After earthquake, then hurricane, officials will check reservoir for its integrity

The Brick Township Reservoir, which doubles as a recreation area, will be closed Tuesday so inspectors can check its condition following an earthquake and a hurricane in a single week.

Brick Township Councilman Domenick Brando told Brick Patch that the facility will be closed all day Tuesday so it can be checked out. The reservoir, located at the township's northern border along Herbertsville and Sally Ike roads, is operated by the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority.

"Having had earthquake tremors and a hurricane within one week of each other, our engineers will be inspecting our facility as an added precaution," Brando said in an e-mail.

The water level was put below the normal limit, Brando said, in preparation for the storm, and the inspections are purely a precaution.

The inspections will come as life begins to get back to normal for Brick residents, some of whom have been without power since Saturday night.

According to JCP&L, 5,321 customers remain without electricity in Brick, down from nearly 10,000 without power Monday morning. Brick Police Capt. John Rein said the township was considering setting up a shelter at Greenbriar I, a senior community off Burnt Tavern Road, but power was restored there Monday evening.

Rein said all residents who require any non-emergency assistance should contact the township call center at 732-262-1234.

Business Administrator Scott Pezarras said residents who would like to schedule a bulk pickup of debris items left by the storm should call the township's public works department at 732-451-4060.
