Brick Reorg Meeting Set for Sunday

Meeting schedules will also change for 2012

The township's annual reorganizational meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on New Years Day.

The reorganizational meeting includes the swearing in of newly elected or re-elected council members, and traditionally, the appointment of individuals or companies in certain roles in township government. In November, four Democrat challengers ousted four incumbent Republican council members. Those new officials will be sworn in at the meeting.

There has been a misconception that the township's annual, end-of-year council meeting, which will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, would serve as the reorganizational meeting, however township officials confirmed this was not the case.

Additionally, meeting schedules will change after the new year. There will now be two caucus meetings and two regular council meetings each month. The previous council met twice per month in what was termed a combined caucus-public meeting. Caucus meetings are open to the public.

The January meeting schedule will be:

Caucus Meetings:

  • Tuesday Jan. 3, 2012 at 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday Jan. 17, 2012 at 7 p.m.

Regular, Public Meetings:

  • Tuesday January 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Let's see how many qualified Brick residents they appoint from the resume's they collected or if they just appoint the same old names from the past from the Scarpelli years. I'm betting we'll see harvey alan mike and tony and a whole list of familiar names from the past.

And I thought they were going to look for ways to cut spending in the budget, why add the overtime and expenses needed to staff and keep town hall open after hours four nights a month? Their first official action is to increase spending. Now we see their true colors when it is time to govern rather than campain!

when you can't run on your record, ones only recourse is to attack. lol....seems they're at least asking for resume's....have you ever inquired how many friends & relatives have been hired under this administraion. gotta love how the battle cry when hiring a Brick football coach was to hire from within...yet with all the layoffs that took place, alot of TR residents were given jobs in Brick. several council members "children" have been appointed to the Housing Authority.....and their qualifications were ?

How can that be the first official action if they are not officially in office yet? The mayor has already chosen Gilmore and Birdsall to continue their services for next year without any input from the new council members. So who is still showing his true colors? Its time for us to suck it up, put our big boy pants on and move forward. EVERYONE needs to support the mayor and council and work together for the residents of our town. I WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND SAFE NEW YEAR!

eliminate a few hand out jobs and they've more then save the funds needed to hold meetings when most working people can attend. amazing that idea and cutting council members salarys & benefits just came to them now. again heard a rumor that a 150k job is leaving Brick and heading towards Berkley. poor, poor Berkley.
Mickey December 31, 2011 at 08:15 PM
add to that rumor of the 150k job going to Berkeley.....rumor 2.....Matthews being booted from the Housing Authority....heard his 90k job was reduced to 60k sometime ago.... as is the legality of his hiring originally. Sean any truth to this ?

John you and your party had your chance and judging by the vote of the public they weren't happy with your performance now they have their chance act accordingly.

John C if I were in your shoes as a business owner in Brick I would put it to rest before it takes a toll on your business.

I think the public will have MORE opportunity to participate with the increase in meetings. Less meetings equal less participation. And really keeping the lites on at town hall for a few more hours a month is not a major cost factor here, is it?????

He was NEVER qualified for the housing authority job anyway. He should get the boot, he deserves it. Can't forget how he BARKED at residents during his tenure on the council. Glad to see him out of Brick government for good.......
Mickey January 01, 2012 at 04:10 PM
ironic it isn't it...he gave up his position on the council and his full time job, for this "appointed" Housing job , got his salary slashed and may soon be out of a job altogether. remember when he lashed out at Kathy Russell at a council meeting over her education.....lol......not the "smartest move, guess who must be smiling now !

@Mickey, so true. He always treated Mrs. Russell with complete disrespect and contempt at EVERY public meeting. She was always a very gracious public servant and never deserved the awful treatment she received from Matthews, Scaturro and Thulen. Good riddance to all of them......
