Brick Mayor Ducey to Hold 'Mayor In' Night Tuesday

Residents can bring up any township issue, though event will focus on building permit amnesty program

Brick Township Mayor John Ducey will host the latest of his "Mayor In" nights at town hall on Tuesday night.

This month’s Mayor In Night will be dedicated to assisting residents with permits during Permit Amnesty Month, Ducey's office said in an e-mail Monday. Last month, the township council voted to extend amnesty to residents who made repairs or took on home projects without receiving required permits.

But while the Mayor In Night is aimed at answering residents' question on permits, the event is open to anyone who wants to discuss and issues with the mayor and township officials who will join him.

The amnesty program will apply to any residents who voluntarily visit the Building Department between June 1 and June 30 and apply for permits, pay the required permit fee, and successfully receive all required inspections for any and all renovations, or construction undertaken without proper permitting. Residents will be required to complete all necessary paperwork, and provide a full disclosure of all work completed.

Normally, a resident could be fined up to $2,000 per violation, township officials said.

The Mayor In event will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Department of Community Development and Land Use in the Brick Township Municipal Building, 401 Chambers Bridge Road.
