Brick Library to Reopen Oct. 27

Vicari announces opening date at Freeholder board meeting

The Brick branch of the Ocean County Library system will reopen Oct. 27, Freeholder Joseph Vicari announced Wednesday.

"It is the most widely used branch in the county," Vicari said of the branch.

The Chambers Bridge Road library building closed May 15 for renovations that county officials said will add thousands of feet of free space.

The county freeholders approved a $1,227,000 contract for the work in March.

Very few libraries are expanding and renovating right now, Vicari said Wednesday, but the freeholders feel it is an important service to offer residents in difficult economic times.

As part of the renovation, the building's interior has been redesigned to increase floor space by approximately 3,000 square feet.

Ocean County Library Commission Chairman Henry J. Mancini has said the project will create meeting room and study spaces, a children's story corner, a new teen area, and a conference room that can serve a dual purpose as a computer instruction lab. The branch will also receive 10 new computers for the lab.
